A Hidden Gem with Great Spirits and Genuine Hospitality

This small distillery is tucked into a beautifully preserved 1800s farmhouse — a charming and unexpected setting. When you arrive, it may feel like you’re pulling up to someone’s home and they usually send someone out to greet you and guide you in.

The tasting was fantastic. The distiller himself walked us through several generous pours and even mixed each of us a sample cocktail afterward.

Our Host also offered us a short tour of the distillery, which is essentially the room you’re sitting in, his explanation of the process was knowledgeable and engaging. Our only objection was that we were later charged $20 for the tour, which was unexpected, as we’ve toured numerous distilleries before and tours were included in the tasting.

We ended up purchasing a couple of bottles — the product is excellent, and the passion behind it really shows.

Visiting from Michigan and we were excited to try some small batch moonshine. Route 52 does not disappoint! All of the various shines are terrific as well as the cocktails made from the moonshine. We came back on Friday to try the wood fired pizza (served on Friday and Saturday) and it was terrific. We also had the pork butt nachos, superb. And my final drink, an old fashioned made with the smoked shine, maple syrup, flamed orange and maraschino cherries. Fantastic! We highly recommend Route 52 and Kentucky Mountain Moonshine.
