Update: 2022 was just as great as always. The kids are already asking to go again this year. There are a lot of activities the maze is always fun (we've never finished it!) The hay bale maze, the pumpkin shooter, the little hay train ride, the playground, giant tires, ninja course, corn pool, jumping pillows, petting zoo area, walking the emus (or whatever they were) pony rides and usually a camel too. Yes the place is expensive, a ton of activities are included but the pony rides and camel ride are extra so is buying feed for the animals and the pumpkin cannon. The jumping pillows, corn maze, petting the animals, music and magic shows and zip line as well as the maze, the tractor tire climber, the play area, petting the animals, hay bale maze, corn pool are all part of admission and I'm probably forgetting some things! Food is just as expensive as any other fair or event. I'm not sure why people complain about prices, they are not different from any other event like this. The thing I don't like is the trillion bees that are always around the food tables, no one wants to get stung by a bee. No one wants to kill all the bees either, but they swarm the tables and you can't sit there and eat.
This is a difficult review to write. I've been bringing 2 generations of kiddos (older sisters kids and now younger sisters kids) here since the beginning when Sever's was a lot smaller. A pandemic, global. It's everywhere. Every one has had to sacrifice and make changes for the betterment of all people. You can not just let a thousand people in and think it will be OK. They need time slots or to restrict their numbers a lot more. It's not cheap, but what is worse is telling the kids who are having a blast that you have to go because suddenly the place is packed and this is just another thing covid-19 ruined for them this year. They have hand sanitizer, great. They have a big area, great. It's all outdoors, pretty good. They say they are limiting people, but I can't see how they are. We got there right after they opened at 10 and until around noon it was great, plenty of area for people to spread out. Then it just kept filling up, more and more people until you couldn't social distance even in their large space. They were wiping off the pumpkin shooters after every person, as well as the zip lines, but no one was wiping off tables nor were there any supplies to do so, and that is where you are supposed to eat, a huge risk for getting covid and any number of other illness and no way to clean it. Not that any of that matters if you can't social distance. You buy tickets and it's just for a day, no specific times, they just kept letting more and more people in. Kids with runny noses were all over using all the play things, no one was wiping any of that down and that was...
Read moreToday my family visited Severs corn maze on October 5th 2018. Six of us attended, myself my husband, and our two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Also my dad his wife and my two year old brother. Although it was a cool and drizzly day we had plans to attend and we decided to do so. After all it is Minnesota and the weather is unpredictable.
Upon paying our admission and entering the fall festival we very unfortunately realized that the majority of the attractions were shut down. We were unable to go on the hayride. We were unable to go down the giant slide. We were unable to play on the large tires. We were unable to launch pumpkins. Also there was supposed to be a pig race which I believe was cancelled. The beer garden was also shut down.
The attractions we were able to enjoy was of course the pit of corn and that kept the toddlers entertained for a while. We also enjoyed the barn with animals. The other attraction that was available was the large jumping pillows. However we were instructed to remove our toddler shoes. However today was drizzly and 48° so the pillows were cold and wet and both children want it off within minutes. We are very understanding of rules however when it's two two year olds with very little to do in the situation I don't think it was appropriate to ask them to jump with cold wet feet.
The concession stands were also a disappointment. I went to the main concession stand I ordered a bratwurst a corn dog and cheese curds. The bratwurst was fine. However the cheese curds and the corn dog we're barely warm. The corn dog being lukewarm was not an issue as I had purchased it for my daughter. However as a Minnesota girl at heart I feel cheese curd should be served piping hot fresh from the fryer. When I asked for a fresh order of cheese curds I felt as though the girl helping me was upset about me asking for hot food and was very Unapologetic.
I am writing this review and hopes that in the future the admission stand will either offer a discount in this situation or at least give a heads up to customers entering. This was my family's first time attending. I had suggested Severs over the Minnesota Zoo's Spooktacular pumpkin event due to pass visits that have been very good. Tonight my visit made me wish I had...
Read moreWe have made Sever’s an annual family event and have gone every year for the past four years since we discovered it. We drive 1 1/2 each way from Rochester and it’s well worth it. While it may seem expensive, the grounds are very clean, meticulously well-maintained and the layout is thoughtful and organized which makes for a stress-free outing for families with young kids. The pride of ownership is apparent. There’s a friendly restroom attendant outside of the porta potties who is constantly going in and out of each unit, spraying down the interiors and the seats, stocking toilet paper, and making them feel more like real bathrooms. There is a ton of space, lines aren’t too long, there are TONS of free/included with admission options that are super fun, and the food options are excellent. My husband and I love it just as much as our kids. The corn pits never feel crowded or dirty, every employee is extremely friendly and helpful, and we can spend a whole day here without feeling bored or overwhelmed. Our kids spend the day outside being active and doing wholesome, old-fashioned activities like climbing, swinging, running, and there’s not a screen in sight. Can’t say enough good things about Sever’s. Purchase your tickets early to save some money, and just know that for a family of four, you’re going to spend a little over $100. What you get for that $100 is way more in terms of memories and fulfillment than you’ll find in any other theme-park oriented venue. The slide is the most costly addition for us but the price does keep the line manageable and we only go down one time. The zip line, corn pits, petting zoo area, climbing toys, hay bales and bubble jumpers are all included and would happily fill our kids’ entire day if we didn’t want to spend over...
