Let me TRY to tell you how great this place is. First the customer service is the best you will ever experience. Before we ever made reservations (not believing how everyone gave a 5 star review and it had to be rigged) we asked if it would be possible to tour. “Absolutely, come on up.” Like we were being invited by our favorite uncle to come for a visit. We immediately fell in love with the cabin and the detail that he has taken in decorating. The seclusion and setting just put it over the top and we couldn’t wait to actually stay. My husband contacted Erin several times in the time before arrival for advice on restaurants (best place to eat for our anniversary, where to get a pizza etc). PS the pizza he recommended at the gas station of all places was delicious and so good we ate it all in the car on the way back to the cabin because we kept eating just one more piece. He was as friendly and helpful as could be and when my husband asked about drive in movie theaters the next thing he knew he got an email even with links of the closest in the area. After we arrived we found even more unique perks in the cabin. My husband said over and over this man must be an engineer or mill right to even have enough imagination to come up with this stuff. Beyond impressed with the detail and the thought that has went into making these cabins unique. During our stay we asked where the nearest pharmacy would be to get over the counter medicines. Erin was quick to tell us but even offered his own advil or tylenol to save us the trip. We do a LOT of traveling and cabins are our favorite for the ability to cook and privacy. This is by far the best we have stayed at. Cabin, hotel or lodge and when you add in the low price you will not find a better deal. We stayed 4 nights for what we have paid for 2 nights elsewhere. We already have reservations again and getting ready to make even more. Kudos Erin and thank you is just not enough for the wonderful vacation and hospitality that only a grandma...

While our final destination was an hour away from the cabin, the overall perfectness of the cabin and property made it well worth the extra drive. We were spending the weekend at Ohio University, and due to changes in plans we took a long shot and started looking for a cabin to stay at rather than cutting our trip short. I was a little worried about whether a 10:30pm check-in time was beyond possible, and honestly I was so hurried to find a place I didn't look long at the cabin or the features. But Erin met us at the check-in spot, and sent us up to the cabin to look around and settle in. The moment we opened the door- we were both just overwhelmed. Every single detail in the design of the cabin, and the decor was perfect. There was soft music playing, that disco ball- and the gas fireplace going... I couldnt have asked for a more delightful entrance. The details, from the layout of the cabin to even the unique plumbing - everything was perfectly thought out and just incredible. Our first night we watched a beautiful snowfall from the hot tub, and then from the wall to wall windows. Peaceful doesn't even begin to describe it. Perfect for any couple needing a get-a-way.

We've stayed in Hocking Hills yearly, with our kids and while we've always had beautiful cabins, I can't think of one that came close to The Back Forty... you really walk in and can tell this place was a labor of love. And meeting Erin and talking with him about the cabin just completely topped the experience. So many little touches, you could tell this was his calling. I'm already trying to figure out how soon we can come back just to be able to enjoy the cabin...

This is our second time staying at Big Rock Cabins and first time at the Back Forty Cabin. I’m not even sure where to start but after our anniversary in May we decided to come back for my husbands birthday. He must have mentioned that our return was to celebrate his birthday and Erin made a note because Sunday morning he got a Happy Birthday text and to tell us we could check in early if we liked because the cabin was ready. That alone was beyond any hospitality we have ever received ANYWHERE and we travel A LOT. But you could imagine our surprise when we arrived and as soon as we opened the door we were greeted with a Happy Birthday banner. There are not words to express our gratitude for the generous hospitality. The cabins are beautiful and unique is not even a large enough word to express the attention to detail that has went into the decor. It is like walking into the finest “finds” of History Channels American Pickers. Tastefully accenting the highest quality cabin you can imagine. This is a hidden gem and you will not find a better deal ANYWHERE. But the icing on the cake is Erin and his hospitality. You are not treated as guests but as family (but with privacy). He goes beyond to make it the best experience possible even suggesting a restaurant (Arch and Eddie’s) and the best pizza at a gas station you will find (both of which we made sure to return to this stay).
