Now I've done a lot of stupid s* in my life car wise, pushing the boundaries of what my junkers can go on, bad roads and old logging trails, but this one takes the cake. All the cakes. When we were told before traveling to this 5 star destination, "It's a bumpy gravel road about 8 miles back," I thought, "I'm from Northwest Wisconsin, walk in the park." It was not, at least not with my wifes 09 Honda Civic Hybrid. Front wheel drive, all weather tires, and checks odometer 172,078 miles, engine light on and few other miscellaneous dash lights also on. Shoulda taken the 08 F150.. Now we made it there and back but not without me dipping into some hidden memories of go-karting at grandpas in the back 40 and playing NASCAR 2002 on the old Windows pc. They graded the road the day after, like literally the next day after we were there. I saw it. BEWARE, you're likely to dent your skidplate or other low hanging pipes and whatever below you bum as you drive this forsaken excuse for a road, i know i did. The hot springs were lit! We had a cold rain, misty mountains, roaring river, and just the right amount of people to not crowd the pool. Springs are HOT. The pool is warm. A nice hot bath warm. You're going to have to push a child or grumpy old timer who's hogging the really good hot water out of the way, but it's well worth it. You paid for it! The heat is constant. It comes right out of the rocks. It's truly a surreal experience. Toilets are vaults but were clean. Nice simple changing rooms. Bring your own towel. $12 cash fee ONLY per person per day, which really needs to go back into the road. Looking at you, Forest Service! Stay long and enjoy. It's well worth it. Just take a car with good car to...
Read moreThe free hotspring inside Yellowstone was flooded out a few years ago. So we drove to this spot on the way down to SLC. The drive from Hoback Junction on US191 was beautiful and fast. But the forest Rd / Granite Rd is bumpy, stony and wild. It could be great if there are bears running around. But we only saw human camping and fishing once in a while. This 9mi drive took ~30'
The hotspring pool is moderate in size. Temp is gradiented from hot to warm pending on the spot. The facility is simple and clean. The soak is quiet enjoyable, but...
Read moreThe hot springs were very nice and peaceful. There was a distinct odor( not uncommon) at this place. Most hot springs I've visited had a sulphur smell and this was more like ammonia. I just tried to avoid thinking about the fact that I am in hot water that smelled quite closely to urine. The view was incredible, the price was more than fair, but the road in was ten miles of mud and muck. It has been raining and the dirt road was pretty slimy in some places but we made it through without incident in our...
