What an absolutely breathtaking experience. This company sure knows their way around the river and hires people who are passionate about what they do! Sam was our guide and we immediately felt safe and comfortable. Not only is he professional and knowledgeable, but he was just a pleasant, stand-up guy who took genuine interest in all of our questions and conversations. This was my first time floating the Snake River and he made it a truly memorable adventure!
The raft itself was comfortable and could fit up to 12 people. We had 9 in our group so it was nice to have the extra space for bags and coolers. It was basically an inflatable oval that could fit 6 people around each end, with the driver planted in the center to access the two paddles (yes, the driver does all of the work!). You don’t get wet at all and can bring your own snacks and beverages on board. We visited in September for the 5pm cruise and found it helpful to pack some extra layers for when the sun starts setting and gets a little bit colder. There is no back support or bathroom breaks for about 2 hours, but the brief (and minor) discomfort was well worth the scenery. The view of the Grand Tetons was visible almost the entire time; we even saw a moose!
Overall I would highly recommend booking for friends and family— what a great way to see so much nature in a fun environment. PS The shuttle picks up and drops off right next to Dornans so you can also grab some beer and pizza...
Read moreWe had a lovely time floating down the Snake River during our family vacation. Unfortunately, we never saw anything beyond beavers and bald eagles (and obviously the guides cannot control this whatsoever)on our evening float but it was still a very beautiful way to experience the water. We had our 2 kids with us (10 and 8). Our bird loving 10 year old loved the float but with not a lot of wildlife viewing, our younger one was a bit bored so plan accordingly with kids. Our guide was great with both our kids and the adults on board. One note regarding Covid, the tour company told us in advance that masks were required while in the shuttle van from the parking area to the river. Once inside the enclosed vehicle, which held 10 passengers (4 of which were my family), 4 passengers immediately removed their masks. I am not sure if our guide/driver saw or noticed but I had to ask them to put their masks back on. They were very obviously annoyed at me for asking and I didn't like having to be put in that position as the customer. I wish that the guide had reiterated the rules and enforced them rather than my having to do it. Aside from this van ride, the rest of the tour felt very safe to do (masks are not required in the boat and passenger capacity is being limited to ensure some...
Read moreWe had a reservation for a scenic float trip with Solitude Float Trips. After a series of delays with our airline, our flight going into Montana the day before the scheduled trip was cancelled. Within minutes of learning that our flight was cancelled and being rebooked to arrive the following day, I called Solitude to let them know. This was 20 hours before the scheduled trip. Although this was completely out of our hands and after reaching out to them requesting a refund, they have steadfastly refused. I would completely understand if we simply changed our minds or if we planned poorly. I would even understand if one of us was sick and cancelled. To be refused a refund because the airline cancelled our flight, giving us 4 hours to make a 7 hour drive when we finally did arrive is absolutely abhorrent customer service. There is nothing reasonable about a policy like that. As I told the office manager, there are times when you should set aside policy and do what is right. Solitude Float Trips clearly does not care about customers or potential customers. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone, especially if you are planning to come in from out of town and are relying on a common carrier to get you to your destination. Run from this company as fast...
