A trip to the Hard-Pressed Cider Company (HPCC) at Windmist Farm in Jamestown for cider and cider doughnuts has become an annual fall tradition. The cider and doughnuts are some of the best that can be found in Rhode Island.
When you arrive, you park on Weeden Lane, but only on the side closest to HPCC and Windmist farm; no parking is allowed on the other side of the lane. There will often be quite a lot of people, so you might need to parallel park on the lane.
After you make your way down the stone and gravel path to the cider and doughnut trailer, plan for a fair amount of time waiting in line. Windmist Farm is beautiful and the time passes quickly if you take in the scenery and chat.
To help others plan, we kept track of the time: we got in line around 1:08PM on a Sunday and there were over 50 people ahead of us. We ordered and received our ciders at 1:41PM, and received our doughnuts at 1:48. So, based on our 40 minute wait, you might anticipate just under 1 minute of wait time for each person ahead of you in line, on average.
The cider and doughnuts are very much worth the wait! Since it was a warm day, we ordered frozen cider slushies that were excellent. We also ordered a dozen of the cider doughnuts. The tartness of the slushies balanced the richer flavor of the doughnuts.
There are tables and chairs in several places so that you can sit and enjoy your food and drink. Some are in the shade, but most are in the sun. There was also a portable toilet available.
I’d highly recommend visiting HPCC. Their most recent schedule is Friday through Sunday 10AM - 4PM (Labor Day to...
Read moreEven thinking about going here is the worst idea you’ve had all year. The road this excuse for an establishment is on is so narrow you can barely squeeze your car down it to get there. Leaving is just as difficult, as the road is a dead end that sends you back the way you came and would make you think you’re leaving a patriots game during the Brady era. The line is so long at the shack that serves cider and donuts that I can only imagine surviving to the end to purchase one or both would just taste like utter disappointment. Should you read this and still decide to go, feel free to tell me I was right when you get home after wasting time you’ll never get back.
Update To Business Response Appreciate your reply, Jaclyn! For clarity, nobody in our party was having a bad day until our experience at your 'place of business' began. For those of us who are not friends or family members of yours, it's important to provide honest feedback so others can anticipate what to expect. Some businesses can accept this feedback without making excuses while some cannot. It's okay to not have any idea what you're doing (and almost admirable, in a way). While relocation seems highly unlikely, I'll certainly be rooting for you to figure it out. For now, outside of the Instagram and TikTok crowd looking to seize the moment and capture presumably underwhelming-donut-atop-underwhelming-cup-of-cider-content, it's...
Read moreFantastic experience! Highly recommend Such reasonable prices and such great products. The cider is amazing and has fun new options like a caramel apple slush. They raise live stock and sell fresh meats. The doughnuts were significantly better than I expected them to be and ready so quickly. Depending on the time you get here there will probably be a line but it’s so worth it and the grounds are cute. The sheep actually like being pet and will come up to the kids and are happy and polite to them. Cute and fun set ups for seating The farm does attract flies and bees obviously so be aware of that if you are afraid of them (there are screens in the kitchen to protect them from it but not for you, so if you have an allergy, be extra careful) Parking is a little difficult, you have to parallel park on the side of a roughy paved road - easier when it’s not so busy. Kind of hard when it’s packed. Love this place and cannot wait to...
