Sam Rayburn Reservoir — Local services in Jasper

The lake and park are great places to relax and enjoy nature. Nice beach to let the kids play on and decent BBQ facilities. My only objection is that you need to visit their website and the state parks & wildlife websites and read carefully the rules and regulations. We got ticketed despite going to the website and reading up on the rules and as it turned out they stated one rule on one part of the park website and it was restated differently on another part of the same website. We ended up paying $200 on a very minor infraction that one park ranger gave us an ok on but another park ranger cited us. We wanted to challenge the fine in court but instead of the judge we were directed to two legal clerks who pretty much ruled against us. My father took me and my brother there almost every weekend when we were younger. We would camp and fish all night. He passed away last month and was wanting to get up there again before he passed but I didn't have a chance to take him. He loved fishing there either on a boat or on the shore . Great lake for family fun. Sam Rayburn is great for fishing, boating, and nature watching. This is a huge lake, and you need to ensure you know where you are going.
