Berland's House of Tools — Local services in Joliet

First time shopping at Berlands tools, I’m a maintenance Director for a large trucking company  so we spend a lot of money. First time going into Berlands and I was greeted by the manager, Tony, I asked Tony if he had high speed, die grinder brushes. Before being allowed to explain exactly what I needed, Tony proceeded to tell me that he does NOT have time to go in the back and look for high speed brushes, I could tell that he did not know what I was talking about so I asked him if I can show him a picture, he told me he’s been in the business for 15 years and doesn’t need me to show him a picture. I explained to him how rude he was, and I proceeded to walk away,. I walk to the area where I thought the high speed attachments would be and was followed by Tony . I showed him what I was looking for. Tony came up with an excuse  of what I did wrong instead of admitting that he was wrong.  I told him that if he would’ve listened to me in the first place, I would’ve showed him exactly what I was looking for.  I proceeded to check out and was again engaged by Tony,. Tony corrected me on the proper verbiage for a high speed brush, Tony thought I was talking about electrical brushes, I was talking about part number 06279, which is called a turbo brush, he made another rude comment at which time I proceeded to tell him he’s a rude jerk, and he told me that I was the rude person and the jerk.

 I called the corporate office and spoke to Dwight, Dwight is the owner, Dwight could care less what I had to say, . he told me that Tony has been there for 10 years and Dwight has never received a complaint about Tony. I suggested to Dwight maybe Tony had a bad day, Dwight told me to give Tony a break and hung up on me.

Several things I’ve learned while shopping at Berlin’s, the management is absolutely horrendous. The customer is always wrong, all I wanted was a couple brushes. I am disappointed in the fact that NOW Im wasting my time on social media filing a complaint publicly about the unprofessional management. I’m guessing the reasons  the parking lot is always empty is because other people feel the same way I do.   I will never ever shop at Berlands again. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM BERLANDS.!!!!! BEWARE!!!!!’On 5/31, I purchased a Fourway ratchet for my son. On the very first day of using this tool which cost $65, the tool bent and which tendered the tool as no longer effective. I brought the tool in on 7/7/25 to determine if they can exchange it or refund my money. When I entered, the female cashier directed me to the counter where I was introduced to the angriest old man I ever met. I mean this guy was miserable. I explained that my son used this tool once and it bent during work. He said that the tool was not meant for prying. He then said that they don’t even sell that tool at the Joliet store. I explained that I bought the tool at the Joliet store on 5/31 and that the tool was defective. I ask the man if I can show him the aisle of where I selected the tool. Many Klein tools were present, but the specific tool I was inquiring about was out stock. I pointed to the section and the man took the damaged tool and went behind the counter. He came back and told me that Berlands does not sell this type of wrench. He never offered an exchange or refund. I know a lot of tradesmen and mechanics. Trust me when I tell you, I will warn anyone who is purchasing tools to NOT BUY FROM BERLANDS. Showed up early, waited for the place to Open at 8am, waited outside with other customers... for the place to Open...8, 8:05... 8:08, the Cashier didn’t get to work on time, so the whole place was on Lockdown. I finally get in, get my stuff and when checking out... the guy says the price marked on the box is wrong! Oh, guess what... it is going to cost you $10.00 more than we advertised on our shelf and what the cash register rings up. Bait and Switch is Illegal... but they don’t care about wasting your valuable time or charging you more than they advertise or have in their system!
