The atmosphere at this place is quite pleasant and relaxing, with scenic surroundings that are charming for the area. I hadn’t heard of it before, but some in our group had visited previously and had a good experience. We were surprised to find no wait on a weekend evening.
Initially, the menu options listed on the board seemed appealing, but once seated, we realized they were outdated. While this wasn’t a major issue, it was a bit confusing. The actual menu items weren’t bad, though the pricing felt a bit high for just a two-course meal. Despite having a large party, we were only allowed to select two types of meat for the table, which made it difficult to satisfy everyone’s preferences.
We opted for the pulled pork and steak with gravy. The rolls served beforehand were soft and fluffy—almost croissant-like—but mostly hollow. No salads were offered. Our meals arrived fairly quickly and were warm, though not hot. Unfortunately, the steak and gravy resembled a microwave meal, with the gravy having a mushy consistency. The pulled pork had a nice presentation but lacked seasoning and flavor, except for heavy pepper added after cooking. It came across more like "peppered bacon" than traditional pulled pork, and the overwhelming pepper completely masked the pork itself.
Sides were hit or miss. Most were okay, but the macaroni and cheese was drenched in grease, which pooled on the plate. It was clearly overcooked and a disappointment, particularly for the vegetarians in our group who had few options to begin with.
Service, unfortunately, was where the experience really went downhill. Our server seemed indifferent and at times flat-out unprofessional. She hesitated when we asked for basic things like extra rolls and only brought out enough for about a quarter of the table. More concerning was her lack of basic dining etiquette—repeatedly reaching over guests to serve plates and refill drinks, even though there was ample space to walk around. She did this multiple times, with no apology or awareness, which made several guests visibly uncomfortable. It was not just poor service—it was careless and discourteous, especially for a place trying to offer an elevated dining experience.
On a positive note, the desserts were decent—the ice cream was cold and had a good texture—but overall, the experience didn’t justify the $22 per person cost for cold and over peppered meats, a few rolls, and a small dessert.
We expected better food and certainly better hospitality. Maybe we caught the place on an off night, but based on this experience, it’s not one we’ll be...
Read moreWe had eaten breakfast here several times and it had been a wonderful experience. We had always heard how wonderful dinner was. So tonight, we wanted to see for ourselves.
We had the chicken and meat loaf. Needless to say, the chicken was barley warm, almost cold. Our waiter, Nolan, stopped by to see how our dinner was. Everything was good, except the chicken. He asked if I wanted try another piece of chicken. So I said yes.
When he arrived with the replacement piece of chicken, I tried it and it was no different from the first piece. Very disappointed!
He asked how was the second piece and I told him that it was not much better than the first piece. Nolan asked if I waned another piece, I said "No, thank you".
He explained that the had been swamped. With tip, our meal was over $70. Nolan was an excellent waiter. However, I was very disappointed by the meal and my experience. I commented to my wife that it was the worst meal that I have eaten and we will not be back for dinner again.
I cannot in good conscience recommend them for dinner. On a side note, the blackberry and ice cream...
Read moreFirst, Sara... you simply made our evening. It's that kind of service with such a warm personality that can make a business, especially in the restaurant industry.
The atmosphere- Comfortable and relaxed. It's not a suit and tie evening unless you want it to be. Casual attire is best, because you're definitely going to eat!
Prices- $$ For the amount of food (unlimited) you are served, the general adult price of around $22 per person is great. Selection- Fried chicken to chops catfish and more with those homemade sides and rolls... ohhhh those ROLLS! Service is always impeccable and all the food never disappoints. The farm here also boast a church with Sunday morning service and that combined with the family's (owners) work ethic and belief system in kindness matters, just sets The Kitchen at the #1 spot for dining in Northeast Tennessee for us.
I absolutely recommend The Kitchen at Grace Meadows. Visit the store if your waiting or after dinner take a stroll and simply enjoy the beauty of it all. 😊 See yall...
