I’ve visited Hillside Horror many times over the years, most years going for Halloween AND Christmas. I’ve always enjoyed my time there! Until last night. I’ve NEVER dealt with the waiting HOURS in line, the disorganization, and the utter boredom. We got there at 730 and did not leave until 1220. We bought tickets online too. WASTE OF EFFORT! Wish I could say it was hours of fun but it was more like this line better be worth it and I can’t wait to get back to the warmth of the car. They had signs saying to go on the hayride first since it ended at 11. The line for the hayride was ridiculous and obnoxious. Waited almost an hour for the lamest hayride ever. We should’ve totally skipped that and got into the already long line. I would’ve been so disappointed if I only purchased hayride tickets. So fast forward to the hours standing in the cold in line. Maybe if you want the lines to run smoother, don’t have the geniuses who were in Santa and Beetlejuice costumes running the lines and counting groups. They weren’t paying attention to the lines. There were three smaller lines at the start of the trail once you got through the main one. “Santa” was supposed to count and put the groups into those lines, evenly, so people could fairly go through. Or so you’d think. Nah. He just shoved tons of people in the middle and right hand lines and would have no one in the left line, then randomly send people through it and people 4-6 groups behind us kept getting to freaking go first because of the GENIUSES you had running that!! The group in front of mine, behind me, and beside of me were starting to get furious and you guys are lucky we were respectful enough to not say what we were saying to your faces. If Beetlejuice stayed at the door and let people through as soon as he could every time maybe we would’ve moved. It’s pretty bad when employees there kept noticing the discontent and irritation on the customer faces, asking “ARE WE HAVING A GOOD TIME?!” Of course your attention seekers and obnoxious children are gonna holler. But what about the noise from the rest of the crowd? Lol. Kept hoping all the waiting would be worth it and it never was. After finally getting to go through, one of the first things your met with is having to go through a hard ass tunnel on your knees, have to wiggle through bungee cord and then fall out of it into the upside down/crooked room. Mind you, most of us are numb from standing still in the cold in line for hours. Everybody was struggling. Most couldn’t feel their knees or feet and were trying to make it through that while some obnoxious ass character is screaming to HURRY AND MOVE THE HELL ON. Took everything in me not to flip shit at that point. Like us hurry when y’all are moving slow as hell and could care less? Nah. I heard multiple other groups saying “owww my knee or leg or ankle”. That section needs to go. They packed us into the shock house so freaking tight there was almost an altercation because there wasn’t even enough room to back up in the crowd to try to get the weird doors open inside. Like how are y’all gonna rush people through that when y’all were in no hurry? Finally getting tired? After we thought we were clear of lines we had to WAIT FOR NOTHING AGAIN at the clown section. All you were waiting on was to walk through the black air bags and the end so I don’t understand the line. Workers really thought we were gonna loose spots in line and stay there longer to play some lame $1 carnival games. Nobody got out of line to play cause I think most were over it. I will NEVER come back the day you do your not so scary event beforehand. Multiple actors talked about how they’d been there since 2 and were tired. That’s unprofessional. Maybe do it earlier in the day or on a different day period. The energy sucked and I got scared 2x for the ~4.5 hours there. Guessing people leaving 4/5 stars have never been to better.. I can wait for hours no problem or complaints..if the waiting is worth it! Last night was not though…sadly. Not the Hillside Horror...

Read moreWe travel out of state every weekend in October to haunted houses all over the southeast. We traveled 4 hours to get to Hillside Horror and this is by far the best haunt we have been to in a long time. We were here two years ago and it left such an impression that we decided to go again in 2024. While the best parts of the haunted trail remain, they had a few new additions and it’s just that much better! It was really great before but this year it was phenomenal! There are a few things that can make or break a haunt and they had well thought out and effective solutions for all. The pace was perfect. The actors were never caught off guard. The lighting was strategically placed and really added a disorienting element to the trail- which enhanced the surprises around each winding turn. I was screaming from the very beginning and that’s rarely the case. The amazing owner, Joe, and his team have really put a lot of thought into the entire place and it really shows. When asked why his prices were so reasonable and why he didn’t charge for parking like others in the area, his humble answer was that he wanted everyone to be able to come for a visit not just those with deep pockets. Just amazing. This has been the highlight of our spooky season and we can’t wait to tell all of our friends in the Lowcountry to head up north to Hillside Horror. Highly...
