I’m writing to share my concern about a recent experience at your store’s self-checkout area. The purpose of self-checkout is to provide customers with more control, privacy, and convenience by allowing them to complete their purchases independently and with minimal interaction. Many of us choose this option to avoid feeling rushed or overly monitored while handling our own items.
I completely understand that theft is an issue and that monitoring is necessary, but if trust is such a concern, it raises the question of why self-checkout is offered at all. And if employees must observe customers, I believe it should be done discreetly and respectfully. During my visit, an employee closely dictated every step of my transaction, touched my items without permission, and watched me so intently that it felt intrusive. At one point, they even held onto my products until I paid. This behavior made the experience uncomfortable and defeated the purpose of using self-checkout in the first place.
