I would honestly give this place zero stars if I could. I had my wedding at Shoal Creek in March of this year. Almost 8 months later I am still very upset and sick to my stomach about the way my event went down at this facility! It all started with The events coordinator showing the facility while my bridal party and myself were getting ready. My bridal suite should have been a PRIVATE place for me to enjoy getting ready with my bridal party.... Right when we were all changing into our dresses the events coordinator opened the doors allowing a couple along with their parents (I assume) to see me and 6 of my girls in various states of undressed. I was in my panties and bra (Thank God for that much) But my sister in law and 2 of my other brides maids didn't even have that much on at the time! I could not believe what was happening! Made for a HIGHLY pissed off bride! The events coordinator decided to ignore the children I had listed in my guest count for food (We had over 20 children there) And about 1/3 of my guest didn't get chicken which was my main course! So freaking embarrassing!! The coordinator tried to blame me for not listing enough guests so I made her go back and find my email and print it off so I could show her.... When she realized that SHE was the one who was wrong she pretended to have lost my paperwork. The ENTIRE staff were all HORRIBLY rude to my bridal party and guests. The bartender asked my 17 year old niece "What do you want?" when she came up to get a drink then shoved a drink towards her spilling it all over her dress! I did plan my wedding the night before Easter Sunday (Not intentionally) and Shoal Creek did have a brunch event the next morning so I am sure my wedding was an inconvenience for everyone who was working my event. HOWEVER, I literally spent 2 years and several thousands of dollars on what was suppose to be my dream wedding only to be treated like an inconvenience to everyone. The "Manager" Asked my Maid of Honor when we would be leaving, which she replied "Well, we paid to have the place until midnight" The manager replied "well I hope you consider leaving before then!" SERIOUSLY??? I left my wedding bawling LITERALLY bawling!! Shoal creek employees ruined my wedding! A bride should look back on her wedding with wonderful memories and as a wonderful experience. I look back on my wedding and cry almost every single time! I hate my wedding night and I am so embarrassed about how everyone who was a guest at my event was treated. I hate that not everyone got to eat at my event, that my bridal party as well as myself were unwilling exposed in an inappropriate way to people we did not even know! I thought over time I would get over the nightmare of that night but almost 8 months later I am even more upset about it. When I talked to the general manager of Shoal Creek and explained to him what all happened he had the nerve to tell me that he watched the tapes from that night and "Did not see a drink shoved at anyone" Like I was lying and like that was the only issue from that night. He proceeded to tell me what MY bridal party did WRONG!!??!!! He claimed that my maid of honor broke a door... It was a hanging sliding door that simply came off of its track and it came off of its track when my maid of honor tried to shut the doors when she realized that 2 of the female staff members were going through our things!!! Like I said 2 years of planning and several thousand dollars later I am left with only a nightmare that was suppose to be a dream! Please save yourselves the misery and DO NOT book Shoal Creek for your...
Read moreI have nothing against the course itself, it's a beautiful course, challenging, and fun. My problem is with the marshals.
Today was cart path only because it rained a little last night. I get it, the carts could make deep imprints in the ground. The marshal at the 1st tee box told us it was likely we would be at 90 degree rule before we got to the back 9. So far, no worries.
The problems started when we were told that we needed to pick up the pace starting on hole 5, even though there was nobody behind waiting on us. The guys behind us were playing about the same pace. Fast forward to seeing a marshal on EVERY HOLE following that (not exaggerating), hovering, watching your shots, making you feel rushed and uncomfortable. I've played with, and behind slow groups. We were not a slow group, we just had cart path only in effect.
But how I know I WILL NEVER PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN is when we finished hole 7, and the group behind us had finally caught us (for the first time) and they had to wait LITERALLY 2 minutes or less for us to clear the green, the marshal had the audacity to ask us to skip hole 8 and go straight to hole 9. We were 10-15 min behind pace maximum at this point, playing a tough course, with cart path only in effect.
This is what kills me, we are expected to play at the exact same pace as if we could drive our cart across the fairway. It's the epitome of unrealistic expectations, and they are punishing their good paying customers by forcing us to move along (we each spent $80 to $100 to be there, and were fuming mad about this).
I was complaining about it in the parking lot and 2 other groups overheard me and came over to explain they also had similar issues with the marshals. I guess they don't want the $300-$400 our group brought them today because my friends and I will NEVER be wasting our time and money sprinting around this track again.
It's a shame too because I really liked this course when I used to live in KC. If you want to play a normal pace, and not feel rushed plus uncomfortable by the presence of the marshals, skip Shoal Creek. Two thumbs down on this experience with my good buddies.
Bonus: They lifted the cart path only rule by hole 18 (how nice of them, it felt like a big middle finger -- right back at ya). When we looked back, no one was even approaching the green on hole 17, let alone the tee boxes on 18. We were not holding up play more than once all day, and it was for 2 minutes hahaha, not kidding save...
Read morePlanned a 36-hole golf weekend with my sons and selected this course for proximity and ease of travel for all of us. What a mistake. I did read the reviews beforehand and noticed several mentioning the course Marshalls and slow play. We all play fairly fast, so no problem. First time playing this course and we were the first group off with a 8:30 tee-time. A 30 minute delay due to frost on the course. We were able to tee-off just after 9am (had to wait on a starter) and away we go.
On the fairway OF THE SECOND HOLE a Marshall stopped both carts to tell us we were already behind and needed to speed it up. We all looked behind us and no other golfers in site! We assumed he was under pressure to keep things moving due to the delay but extremely rude. We were all a little taken-aback at what just happened. Two holes later he drive up and sits on the cart path watching everyone hit. Again, we look back - nobody in site!
Finish the first 18 with at least a full hole between us and the group behind us. Check-in for our 1:30 tee-time expecting at least a 30-minute delay. The gentleman behind the counter asks for the name and then proceeds to lambast us for slow play and needing to pick up the pace..."You're killing us" were the exact words with several folks around the counter. Low-class response. Embarrassing and rude. We were so mad at this point and discussed cutting the day short. We all traveled over 3.5 hours to get here so played on and finished the round. Never saw a Marshall on the back nine of the final round and waited on several holes to tee-off. Maybe they only work the first hour of the day...
Before making accusations they should get their facts straight. Our scheduled second tee-time of 1:30 was only delayed to 1:45 so through the morning, at least 15-20 minutes were made up.
Through the threads Shoal Creek seems to respond. So many encounters like this in past reviews with responses to review procedures and meet with staff. Has that meeting not taken...
