Opaekaa Falls View offers one of the most beautiful and easily accessible vantage points on Kauai. Located along the Wailua River on the island’s eastern side, this stunning waterfall cascades approximately 150 feet into a hidden pool below, surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation.

The name “Opaekaa” translates to “rolling shrimp” in Hawaiian, a reference to the once-abundant freshwater shrimp that inhabited the stream. The falls are a classic example of Kauai’s natural beauty, with water flowing year-round, making it a reliable and rewarding stop for visitors.

The lookout point is conveniently located just off the road, with ample parking available, making it an easy stop even for those with a tight schedule. The viewing area is well-maintained and provides a clear and unobstructed view of the falls, allowing you to fully appreciate their beauty without the need for a strenuous hike.

From the lookout, you can also enjoy sweeping views of the Wailua River Valley, which is rich in history and cultural significance. The surrounding area is a haven for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone looking to experience the serene and majestic landscapes that Kauai is famous for.

Opaekaa Falls View is a must-visit for anyone exploring the island. Whether you’re an avid photographer, a nature enthusiast, or just looking for a peaceful spot to take in Kauai’s beauty, this view offers a perfect opportunity to do just that. It’s a simple yet unforgettable experience that captures the essence of Kauai’s...

SINCE THEY RE-DID THE LOOKOUT IT HAS BECOME THE FUTURE SITE OF SOMEONE FALLING TO THEIR DEATH! Every day I see people: children, elderly people (who are having a hard time even walking), vaping teenagers, all who have crossed over the pathetic “barrier” and are standing at the top of a 200 foot unobstructed fall to their death. For sure. PLEASE STOP!! It wasn’t like this before it was overgrown so there was no view on the waterfall side of the road except from the proper viewpoint. Now people can walk right around a small fence and be standing in a very precarious spot. I hope the State of Hawaii DNLR or someone fixes this immediately because it’s literally an accident waiting to happen. Please upvote this post so people...

I wouldn't kayak this river ever again, ever. If you are an amateur, you may want to turn back a couple dozen times both directions. It's like kayaking for a half day. It's fun for about an hour. When you get to the spot to hike to the falls, it's so muddy in the Winter you sink 6" in mud and slide around. The mud is like sticky clay that doesn't wash off easily. I would rate this journey one star, Its not the falls fault. Just drive to it, get out take 5 pictures and move on. Rent the kayaks, take 3 pictures, take them back. That river is like an Amazon river, wind, waves, relentless rain, wind, repeat. Mud that reminds you of La Brea tar pits. Man vs wild, not sure who...

Cool waterfall , be sure to see the lookout to the river just across the road. Lots of chickens and roosters.

Can only see this beautiful waterfall from a distance. Parking lot (free) can be full during tourist season. It’s a quick view. No more than 15 minutes. There is a #accessibilityfriendly platform for people who are wheelchair bound or use a walker. This helps not to roll or walk on the only narrow sidewalk to the get closer to view (and take photos) of the Falls. Across the street is a viewing platform overlooking Wailua River. Be sure to look both ways before you cross the road (lots of cars). Public restrooms and a big parking lot for cars, tourist buses, and designated Blue handicapped parking.
