Upon Christine's suggestion that the Encore Shop would be a good place for me to sell household property in November of 2017, in time for holiday shopping as gifts, she took possession of my property. I was told everything would be unpacked, itemized and listed and a contract and list returned to me.
I never got a contract and I never got a list. Christine returned some property -- badly packed and damaged -- which she said would not sell. She told me other things were sold. "Where's the check, I asked." "I'll put it on the bookkeeper's list to get it out to you." That was in January. A month later: "Where's the check?" "I'll remind the bookkeeper. I left a reminder voice message in March. Two weeks ago at the beginning of April, I saw Christine at her shop in West Chester and got the answer, "I told the bookkeeper to send it to you." There's no check. There's never been a check. I doubt there's a bookkeeper!
It's now five months since Christine took possession of my property: no contract, no list and no check for property Christine claims was sold. As far as I'm concerned, this "charity" lost my property or sold it and kept the proceeds or the employees or store customers stole my property. And "The check is in the mail" manager -- Christine -- is doing her best to create a cover up "story" hoping I will go away and forget about what was done to the property and to me.
Be smarter than I was: DO NOT CONSIGN ONE'S PROPERTY HERE! There are honest charity shops in Chester County which are well run. A one star rating is one too many when one's property is lost or stolen and management is not honest...
Read moreNot the best shop for consigning items. The percentage paid to the consigner is good, but the prices they want to put on items is too low. We had a very large silk flower arrangement and they wanted to put a sale price of $25. We said no and took it to another shop where it sold for $145. Last year fur coats were reasonibly priced, this year they aren't taking any fur coats. Some of the staff are "snooty". My wife had a designer dress which hadn't been worn. It still had the price tag on it. The clerk said nobody would have paid that price. We expected it to be listed at maybe 40% of the original price. But to say that nobody paid the price on the tag was wrong...my wife did! Again we took it to another shop where the price was more appropriate and it sold. We...
Read moreMany of us go to thrift stores and consignment shops to find vintage clothing, or at least clothing that isn't the typical "on trend" stuff being sold in stores. But Encore will only accept "current" "in style" duds. Boring!
So, that makes them a small with a limited selection of marginally better priced (higher often than brand new clothing thats sale-priced in other stores) clothing. Meh.
Occasionally you might find a cool old piece of clothing, furniture, etc., for a half decent price. And they benefit the Chester County Hospital, which must be a good...
