📍 Sand Cave, KY (The parking for this hike is actually in VA, but the hike crosses the KY line so the cave is located in KY). This massive sandstone cave is an 8 mile hike up around 2,200ft of elevation gain. Bring water, bring snack, and be prepared to get a little sandy. Was hiking the Misha Mokwa trail and took a detour of the trail to see the cave. It’s just a quick detour and if you walk to the top of the cave you can get a nice panorama. When I visited it was not very crowded and it was a nice experience. Overall a worthwhile walk of the main trail.

Was hiking the Misha Mokwa trail and took a detour of the trail to see the cave. It’s just a quick detour and if you walk to the top of the cave you can get a nice panorama. When I visited it was not very crowded and it was a nice experience. Overall a worthwhile walk of the main trail.

It was a nice little walk. We didn't go down to the cave because we had 2 little kids with us but we enjoyed it from a distance. I can't wait to come back and see it up closer! It was definitely pretty and it was nice to read the little bit of history relating...
