421 Market & Grill — Local services in Kernersville

This busy little restaurant (plus a mini-grocery store?) has a lot of potential. But, the owners need to work out some kinks.

The items offered are a bit pricey for what they are. The service is excellent. The food is good. The cleanliness is lacking in both the dining area and the men's restroom. The dining area feels spacious. But the counter / order-line is confusing and needs better flow.

Although this place accepts credit cards, while trying to pay, I was told that all credit card transactions under $10 would be assessed an additional surcharge. This practice used to be prohibited by Visa and Mastercard up until 2013. However, this merchant still broke the new rules. Visa and Mastercard both limit the surcharge to the amount/percentage that the merchant pays for the transaction. In other words, you don't ever pay more for the transaction than the merchant. Visa and Mastercard further limit the surcharge to never any more than 4%. Yet, this restaurant charges a flat-fee that would only fall within even the second limitation for transactions above $8.25. And, I'm sure this merchant does not pay 4%. So, probably all of this merchant's surcharges violate their agreement with Visa and Mastercard at the expense of their customers.

Its a shame the customer service is so bad because the food is actually good. The last time I ordered food for pickup, the lady rudely said "Next time I'd appreciate a tip". Mind you, I called ahead and picked up a to go order. This time I called ahead and ordered 3 salads. Asked what came on them, eggs were included on two. I added and paid extra for eggs on the 3rd salad. Picked up my order, and when I got home realized there were no eggs. Called up there and told them eggs were missing and that I was coming back up there to pick up. Drove all the way back just for the lady to tell me "we don't have any eggs". Extremely frustrating and she wasn't even apologetic. We have a business about 2 miles down the street and will never order...

I've already went back twice to this place it was so good. First I got the Bubba burger which was so good then I got the double but next time I go ill just get the Bubba. The double was too much meat for me but overall it was good. You have to wait a bit for your food because its local so only 1 or 2 ppl are cooking which is fine with me because at the end of it the food is really delicious and is better than a regular chain restaurant. Fries have a seasoning on them which makes them delicious too! I haven't really tried...
