We took our kids to fish in Jake's Pond and when the tide started to come in all the fish gathered near the intake pipe that feeds the pond fresh water every high tide. We caught flounders that were the size of doormats that weighed around 8lbs on the average. We caught red fish that were huge! The largest one was 22lbs. The fish hit cut shrimp and Gulp Alive Shrimp in the new penny color. The only problem is that it is a catch and release fishery. The fine I think is 1023.00 per fish if you even think about keeping one and getting caught. However, the fish hit for a solid 3 hours before they let up. We caught around 25 fish in all. Several different species. If you want to take a kid fishing just to make sure you catch fish then this place would be hard to beat. Get there 2 hours before high tide and you will see the giant red fish hit the mullets as they are spit out of the intake pipe once the tide is really coming in. Remember you have to have a child 12 and under or dont even think about fishing as an adult by yourself...not allowed and you might...

I finally made it to Botany Bay and it was beautiful! I love a beach and now getting into the forest as well. So it was like having the best of both worlds! This place looked like something out of the movies.

The drive in was beautiful and peaceful. The hike/ walk to the beach and back is about 1 mile total.

There is a 6.5 mile driving tour to explore plantation. I would have loved to walk through out but those alligator signs deterred me!πŸ˜€

The Boneyard Beach was breathtaking. It was overcast and rainy so we didn't get to stay long but planning another visit soon!

Shells are not to be taken from the beach. There is a $470 fine. And you will need to check the tide chart for low tide in order to enter the beach. There is a kind older gentleman at the trailhead that can help with any questions needed.

It is free just have to do a Day Use Pass on the way...

Extremely disappointing. My husband and I have been to Botany Bay Plantation once before and have raved about it to everyone we know because we loved it so much. We live four hours away. My mom was in town for the week and Tuesday was my day off, so we decided to drive down so I could show her how amazing it is. When we got there, the gates were locked with a sign saying "Closed on Tuesday". We saw nothing about it being closed online before or after driving four hours to see it. When we called to inquire about private tours on Tuesdays, there was no possibility of that happening despite the fact that we made an eight hour round day-trip just to tour it. Please update your website and Google so others will not have the...

This place is so cool! Turn on Botany Bay Rd and drive about a mile and a half. This plantation is down a dirt road so beware after a hard rain. You'll be greeted by a volunteer who will provide a map and answer any questions you might have. Drive another mile and a half then turn right for the beach. I arrived around 10am and there was hardly anyone there. Another volunteer directed me to the 1/2 mile path to the beach. The walk through the marsh is lovely but doesn't prepare you for the gorgeousness of the beach. It was low tide and especially beautiful. Impossible to take a bad photo here. Could spend the entire day wandering around. A must see if you are in the Charleston area..its only about a hour away.
