2 goldens (1 yr, Ava and 2 year old Ellie) and an 11 year old shih tzu (Sophie) ....I had a concern with my Shih Tzu losing weight, but knew I was coming up on on their annuals. Receptionist scheduled them and told me it was $86 for all 3. I arrive, wait 45 minutes with 3 dogs (so much fun! Insert sarcasm), get to the room, wait 20 more minutes. Tech comes in to let me know that the Goldens are not due for another 2 months. Annoyed, yes, but WHATEVER. Move on. Vet comes in, I raise my concerns about Sophie losing weight. She said she was slightly on the skinny side. My reply exact words "Slightly? You can feel every rib". To clarify, she didn't look at the weight change. She was losing hair. You could see her hair line down the middle of her back. She went from 6.5 down to 4.5lbs. (That's A LOT of weight for a small dog in a few weeks time.) She suggested we run blood work. Ok. She thought she has a slight ear infection. I'd like to cut this part short, but since I was only with the vet for 5 minutes...its short. Waited 25 minutes to pay my bill. (Honestly, don't even care. I get it. I probably caught a busy hour---like every time I go. Coincidence I guess.) The bill---$280....for the one dog. Woah. What if I didn't have that amount on me? Why would the vet not at least give me a heads up...or that the antibiotic for her ear was $40 when I could've gotten it at Walmart for $4? Annoyed, yes. WHATEVER. Move on. Fast fwd about a week later. No call from vet yet, scroll on my phone and it shows they called a few days prior. Call them. Tech says there's a note on my account that no VM was set up. (I run a business. My VM is set up.) WHATEVER. Let's please pretend I really didn't have VM. When I have to run a labs that are not a part of an appointment, why not try back? Why not try my husband's number on the account? The good news--labs came back perfectly normal and tech said to try puppy food with more nutrients. So, that's what I did. Still not gaining weight, but the vet definitely would've told me to bring her back if she thought something was missed....right? Well, we have one dog who is slightly overweight so had to start measuring foods. We thought maybe that's why she's being so picky?? Her labs are normal, what else could it be causing her to be so picky? I was reading up from a few sites that older dogs can go literally...anorexic... just for moving their dog dish! Well, that's exactly what we did. Changed the way they eat--measured food instead of out of a feeder. Maybe that's it. The sites also said maybe stress or depression could cause low appetite? We needed to do something drastic because there was nothing to her. We decided to let my retired parents take her to their home where Sophie loves to go. No big dogs around, no kids, people coming and going... she will be in heaven getting all the attention. She was getting a high calorie dog paste for dogs who need to gain weight, 150 calories 3x a day and puppy milk. She ate great, used the bathroom, was her normal self, but slept a lot more. She was with my parents for 3 weeks, spoiled rotten. She'd send me videos of her pigging out and being her normal self. My mom thought she had gained some weight in her ribs, but she's with her all the time it was hard to tell. This past Sunday, my mom said she wasn't doing so good that day and day before. I went to get her (2.5 hrs away) about 9pm. I approached her laying on the couch...and I fell apart. There was nothing to her. She had lost so much hair, but now on her legs. She was so weak. I stayed the night. She slept with me. I was up every hour checking her heart beat. About 7:30 I went to pull her closer to me and she just flopped over. She had no strength. I took her to the animal hospital. She was 2.6#. I learned from that vet that it not uncommon for dogs to eat and use the bathroom, but lose weight. I learned that the vet should've followed up with the labs being normal, that there was likely another issue. Further x-rays and/or ultrasounds should've been suggested. We had to put...
Read moreToday Josie had a Vet appointment for her wellness exam and some vaccinations. The Vet Tech came in and told me, “Josie can only have 1 Lepto Booster and would have to come back in 4 weeks for the second Lepto Booster” I told the Tech that I’d like her to get the full shot. So I asked the Tech why she’d have to have in two? She couldn’t answer that and said the Vet could explain it to me. When the Tech left the Room, I could hear her talk about me that I told her I wanted the full vaccine. So when Dr. Schoeller the fill in relief Veterinarian came in she totally unleashed on me. She asked me if I knew that Veterinary Suicide is high b/c of people like me. She said I upset the staff & her, then threatened me she could refuse service today. I told her it’s not my fault that Josie is over due for the vaccine b/c when I called to schedule the appointment that they’re scheduling months out due to them only having 1 Veterinarian left! Her response to me was, “well you called in April!” No, I didn’t b/c it is April. She insisted she was right. I then asked her if Dr. Schneider still worked there?” She told me it was irrelevant. We’ve went to the Kiel Veterinary since we moved in 2005 to Elkhart. Since Dr. Schutte retired and sold the clinic, to a Corporation the clinic has changed so much. So much so that all but 1 Veterinarian left to go else where. Many of the Vet Tech’s left also. During Josie’s appointment, poor Jo Jo was shaking as she’s afraid to go there since breaking her leg. She was kinda tucked under the bench seat. Instead of being compassionate, the Vet grabbed ahold of Josie’s collar and pulled her out. Did her exam and then stuck the shot in Josie without rubbing the area or anything. Just jabbed it in her!! After that I was livid! So I scheduled the second Booster in 4 weeks. After that, we will absolutely No Longer take our dogs there to receive shity care!!! I called the Elkhart Lake Veterinary Clinic to set up a meet & greet. The receptionist at the Elkhart Clinic told me they have gotten more clientele from the Kiel Veterinary Clinic. I was able to record some of our...
Read moreI am so disheartened to write this review after having all of my fur babies for the last 20 years at this clinic.
I have a 5 year old dog that randomly lost a full tooth (not broken off due to an accident or trauma), but just fell out. All his upper teeth are loose and already shifting. All prelim research tells you to reach out to your vet immediately as this is not acceptable in a dog, at any age.
I am now 2 weeks into this and cannot get a response back from a vet on how to proceed after MULTIPLE calls back. Every time I call, the sweet receptionist tells me they will call us back-but it never happens. They couldn’t get him in for an appointment so I emailed in pictures yesterday, yet his Dr wasn’t able to look at them yesterday and is out today. And now it’s a weekend, again.
Is there not a Dr that covers when one is off? Do you all have more animals than you can handle at this time? Is there no on-call component to this clinic anymore- as has been for the last number of decades?
You post on your website about “preventive care” yet you are booking dentals out 5 months and can’t accommodate anything urgent, at all.
I am feeling like the care that is being provided is sub par, if not bordering on unacceptable. I fear it’s time to move my animals to somewhere that will treat them like we do, like a part...
