Very disappointed in the drop of care since Journey took over. We have a camera in the room to back up all these incidences. Leaving a resident in the dining hall or their room for 12 hours unchecked is not good care. Putting in hearing aides with a dead battery so their ears are blocked is not good care. Not putting in the hearing aides is not good care. Not replacing a lost hearing aide for 6 months when it was left in overnight by the aide who got the resident ready for bed is not good care. Not combing a residents hair is not good care. Putting clothes in the laundry when family does the laundry and clothes don't come back is not good care. Not turning off the TV when the resident asks it to be off when she goes to bed. Resident in bed at 7, TV turned off after midnight!! Showing a resident their toilet mess they couldn't help doing after changing them and saying "look at this" not good care. Not showering resident for months is not good care. Requesting finger food because holding a utensil is painful and getting spaghetti that is impossible to eat is not good care! Spaghetti is not a finger food!!!!! Resident had spaghetti all over her as she tried to eat it with a spoon they gave her!! Blocking the camera (which is illegal) that's in the room and me having to go and unblock it at 10:00 at night because the nurse was "too busy and doesn't have to do it because I called" is not good care. Complained and it's still happening. The previous social workers were visible and ready to help in any way. We didn't have to go and follow up with them, as they came to us and told us the resolution to whatever situation or problem we needed handled. They were two of the nicest, most pleasant people. The residents loved them. We loved them and miss them. Everyone was sad to see them go. Their door was always OPEN and problems were taken care of ASAP. They messed up the payments of most of the residents, as we were still making checks out to the previous owner because we were never notified of the buyout!!! Now Journey is demanding payments that were made to the previous owner who has not given the payments that were made to them to Journey. If you bought a company wouldn't the FIRST thing you would check was to make sure payments and checks were made to you!!???!! They call me telling me we owe that large balance which we do not, as we paid to the previous owner. That is their problem to get the payments back, not ours!!! This has been happening since September, 2024. This is the care that a resident is getting when they have a loved one come in EVERYDAY!! Can you imagine the care others are getting who have no one to advocate for them?!!! Their motto states they want to go on this JOURNEY with the residents? They would...

I am very pleased to share my experience with Kirtland Woods Alzheimer's Care Unit. Since the change in ownership, the facility has truly transformed — becoming more structured, dependable, and providing a noticeably higher level of care. One of the most important changes has been the shift away from agency staffing. The care team is now consistent and cohesive, providing client-centered services with a true sense of continuity and familiarity.
Some of the absolute best, long-time staff have remained, and they continue to deliver care with an extraordinary level of kindness, compassion, skill, and gentleness. In an Alzheimer's Care Unit, clinical skill is essential — but so is the ability to meet individuals where they are. I see this gift displayed time and again by the staff, and it brings me great peace as a daughter.
My mother's placement at Kirtland Woods was made by personal choice, guided by her medical needs — and I can say without hesitation that it was the right decision. It’s important to understand: when choosing care for a loved one, it’s not about the paint on the walls, the furniture, or the fancy lobby. It’s about the culture inside — the sense of community, the respect for residents as individuals, and the understanding that this is their home. Every day, staff enter their home with the responsibility to serve with dignity and kindness.
One thing I have learned through this personal journey is the importance of staying actively involved in your loved one’s care. Helping the staff truly get to know who your loved one was before the aging process and diagnosis is one of the greatest gifts you can give. It creates a bridge of understanding and makes the care even more personal and meaningful.
The leadership team is present, approachable, and visible throughout the department. You can feel the difference — it is a different culture now, and I couldn’t be more grateful. As a healthcare clinician myself who has worked in these types of settings, I can confidently say: not much gets by me. I recognize good care when I see it.
Kirtland Woods has earned my trust, my respect, and my...
Read moreBased on my personal experience with my mother's stay at this facility for a few months, I cannot recommend it. The care provided was well below the standard expected from a nursing home. Caregivers were not invested in providing dementia care. I often found my mother incontinent for extended periods of time and the staff became disgruntled when it was brought to their attention. She was put to bed at night in the clothes she wore during the day, only to find the day shift got her up with the same soiled clothes. I informed the staff that family will do labeled laundry, yet caregivers would send items anyway and countless clothes went missing. Substandard unit cleanliness. Toilet seats were often covered with feces from another resident. Dust and debris on the floor, particularly under the bed, were only swept when brought to the attention of the unit manager. When bed linen was missing, I was told they had a shortage. Safety issues included a broken bed that was not replaced for days, then it was later put back in the room. My mother's roommate's bed was pushed against a loose electrical outlet. My mother's bed was continually pushed against the wall and blankets were next to or on the baseboard heater. Despite trying to reach out, they ignored my calls to the Admission Coordinator, Director of Nursing, and Administration. Beware, Kirtland Rehab and Care do not match the Admission Coordinator's...
