We visited this vineyard today with my mother-in-law and two kids, hoping to pick Concord grapes. At first, the owner was very friendly and even offered us pears to try. We politely declined since my kids don’t like pears, but she still insisted kindly.
The vineyard itself is very small. The owner showed us Concord grapes and encouraged us to taste them. Unfortunately, they were extremely sour — not what we expected at all. We tried another variety of green grapes, but they were just as sour.
We decided to at least pick a little since we were already there. However, the vines were covered with lanternflies, which was quite unpleasant. In the end, we picked only two small bunches. When we went to pay, the owner’s wife seemed unhappy that we didn’t have more. I politely explained the grapes were sour, but she pushed us again to buy pears, which we declined.
What really disappointed me was at checkout: she weighed the grapes and charged us for 1 pound, but when I got home and weighed them, they were only 7 ounces. I don’t mind paying extra to support a local farm, but being overcharged like this feels dishonest.
