Ok, so I do not live too far from here and at about once a month we drive by and say, "we have to stop in there one of these days". Well, today was the day and all I can say is I wish we stopped in forever ago. First off, I would like to say that if you doing the TN Whiskey Trail, they will be on in about a month. They will be opening a 3nd location in Pigeon Forge, which I'm excited to also visit. But it will still not account for the experience we received at the original location.
On to the important stuff! This is a local, veteran owed business. If nothing else, be sure to stop by and thank our veterans for their service. Ok, so they have limited, but very selective flavors of moonshine. Personally love the bigger selection of Whiskeys. It was hard to choose a favorite Whiskey, as each one had its own story and profile. Not one of them had a harshness or a "stinging" bite regardless of their proof. However, my mind was completely blown 3 times, each one was a bigger explosion then the last!
1st, the sea salt caramel moonshine. I have never ever experienced one like this. It was perfectly balanced between the sweetness of the caramel, but saltiness from the sea salt. Many places fall flat when trying to achieve this perfect balance.
2nd, grandma's apple pie...I shouldn't have to say more, but I can't help it! I've tried apple pie shine pretty much everywhere I've been and not one of them have made out the door in my hand, until today. This is perfectly balanced and does not have an overpowering cinnamon flavor. As I let it sit on my tongue for the few seconds to grasp the profile, it brought me back to when I was a kid and just eating the gooey sugary filling from a homemade apple pie. Oh, just about brings tears to my eyes with how perfect it is! So hard to even think anything could top this.
3rd, is the combination of the seq salt caramel and the apple pie...do i need to say more? Mic drop 🫱🏼🎤
If you have not been here, stop putting it off, get yourself here. Highly,...
Read moreLet me tell you, ALL the 5 star reviews are well worth it! Found this place searching the map for distilleries and glad we took the extra time to visit! Our visit included some tastings, purchases, and a great conversation with the owner, Rod! Loved hearing more about his business and the stories of his prior Military and LE Experiences. Even dropped off a patch to add to his collection! The tastings were good, I wanted a broad spectrum of his products so we tasted his highest proof moonshine.....SMOOTH without the burn! Then onto some of the whiskey's, which is were I like to be, delish they were, so I bought one! Lastly was the flavored moonshines, more where the GF likes to be, but I had to dabble in them too. They were AWESOME!! Of course I had to buy the Thin Blue LIne moonshine! Another POSITIVE experience that I would highly recommend! And future visits while in the area will be a MUST on my road trips....but I'm gonna have to get Rod to hang out and social drink so that we can tell...
Read moreHusband and I have completed the TN whiskey trail and are branching out to other local distilleries. So on a trip up to Knoxville found Drop Zone through Google and decided to stop by...and boy am I glad we did. Definitely my #1 place now for Moonshine, you can just taste the difference and loved that Ross explained all the processes for each spirit during our tasting which helps you truly understand WHY this is so special/much better. The rum was also great and look forward to seeing some variations of it (spiced, flavors). But to me the ultimate best was their Salted Caramel Whiskey. Again you get the whiskey and then you get the caramel flavor you can ACTUALLY taste. Just amazing. We'll see ya'll again soon once that bottle runs out since I'm sure we'll be hooked on it as we told Ross while leaving. And also just appreciate the hospitality from Ross and a nice little convo about distilling and the industry in general. So if you are contemplating stopping in do yourself a...
