My experience here was coming to this island by boat and enjoyed a half day snorkeling trip which also included lunch (highly recommended by the way- worth- it). Crystal clear waters and June was the perfect time of year to go. Great weather. Along the way we were lucky enough to experience a family of dolphins that were said to be indigenous to Hawaii and they (boat captain and guides) said they were highly social!! Perfection. Please respect this place and the local community. I would suggest that you make arrangements for a rental car prior to booking a ferry ticket. I suggest a vehicle with four wheel drive. The main beach is a short walk from the main docks. There are day picnic areas with tables and barbecues. There is a Four Seasons resort North of this beach. The main town is about a fifteen minute drive and is located inland. The North side of the island has a shipwreck near the shore and is a point of interest.
