DD's Chick and Cat Shack — Local services in La Habra Heights

I have no words and yet so many at the same time… I frequent VP Racing which is the same building but today… there was something different about today. It was a frustrating day before I arrived but as soon as I stepped out of the car, the smell hit. I had just come for gas next door but that smell…. That was irresistible… The fact that this is the longest running place that’s been in this spot was another reason I had to try it. I was starving and the smell only made me more eager to order. I got the greeted by a wonderful woman who chatted with me while taking my order. Absolutely pleasant. I got the Catfish Box with Swamp Water which came out to $11 and I was surprised I got a drink at all! For that pricing?? Nowadays??? Then after getting my change I was taken aback… I got more than just the catfish and fries that I had thought came in the box. I got 3 beautifully cooked pieces of catfish. Those sat atop a generous serving of fries that were seasoned soooo very well. On top of that, 2 hush puppies, some coleslaw and the amazing delicious wonderful sauce on the side. I didn’t eat until I got home just around the corner but WOW. Just… WOW. I shared with my mother who was skeptical and she was taken aback. I wanted to YELL. I’ve never never enjoyed food the same way I did this meal. Just.. WOW. It’s been about an hour and I’m still so frustrated(?) about how good it was. I know this review is long but I promise it wouldn’t be this long if the food wasn’t that damn good. Amazing owners. Amazing food. Wow! Talk about top-notch flavor and exceptional value for your money! I had the pleasure of trying their cheeseburger box combo and chicken po'boy sandwich for lunch & dinner. When you hear me say "fresh,well-seasoned, finger licking,lip smacking, generous portions..man! Believe me!"

My rule of thumb when gauging a restaurant that offers American-cuisine classics, is to 1st try their burgers. Coz if you can't get a burger right...then? C'mon now?😆

So, DD's hit their burger and po'boy into the stratosphere!! Seemed like a 3/4lb of fresh ground chuck/brisket blend, well seasoned and cooked beef patty,on a buttery brioche bun with the fixins and that "jazzy sauce"!!Bwoy...get outta here!🤣. Served with perfectly seasoned crinkle-cut fries and that "Swamp water" tea and cherry beverage/concoction...all for about $9?...Man!! Make you wanna slap yo momma!! But hey..my momma in Africa..so!🤣🤭. Am gonna call her though and tell her about your wonderful food! You guys are truly onto something special! The po'boy was amazing as well,with that jazzy slaw goodness on a fresh hoagie bun!

Just a little tidbit..I was in LA(truck driver)to make a drop just down the street from you. I spent Saturday evening and Super bowl Sunday( which was also my birthday 😔) in my truck! But discovering and enjoying your food really made it a memorable weekend of sorts! And this happens just before you guys embark on your food truck journey!! UPDATED 10/29/22: I finally made it back up from San Diego and had to stop by again. I was very happy to see 'smoked' meats added to the menu. I had the smoked rib tips that were beyond good. They were seasoned perfectly did not need additional sauce to stand out. 2 sides came with the plate. I got cajun fries and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese is usually and throw-away item for me but not here. The mac and cheese here is a star on its own! Delicious real cheeses and special seasoning make it a special treat. Next time I might get double mac and cheese for my sides :). Finally, I had some of the peach cobbler. I saved it for when I got back to San Diego and it was worth the wait. The best part too is that the owner and DD's crew always make you feel welcome. I can't for my next trip up there to try something different.

Original Review Finally made my way up from San Diego to try this place out after a friend recommended it. Definitely worth the drive. Had a chicken poboy because let’s face it , you can’t walk into Subway get a poboy. Reminded me of the great poboys I get when I visit my brother in Mississippi. Great seasoning on the chicken, great slaw and a great roll. Owner was very nice and greeted me when I got there. Oh yeah, I also tried the Dirty Tea and it was delicious. A great family owned business and definitely worth a repeat visit next time I’m up...
