The Garden — Local services in Lafayette

Horrible place. Drunks and losers everywhere. I was not welcomed. Was not welcoming at all. Just about everyone is poisoning their lungs with cig smoke so I can't socialized without being poisoned. The only person there walked by my vehicle complaining "He just sits in his van all the time". No one who lives there was welcoming at all. And then, someone else who was staying for a time told me they charge you $10/day to park there or they require you to work their gardens or something, which means there's no freedom there. They don't tell you about the $10/day expectation. It's not even on their website. I drove hundreds of miles to be duped by a bunch of liars. I emailed them, asked a question, after several months, absolutely no response. ...

Welcoming place for ALL. Whether you're travelling through quickly and need a place to rest your head (and a full belly) or you're looking to get involved in something greater than yourself, The Garden supports all those things. There is a no drugs, violence and alcohol policy and is very safe for children and families (we have 2 teenager). From what we've witnessed the space has been ever evolving over the years and is always growing in community and capacity. Nothing like what is seen on YouTube and really just some calm, chill and kind people trying to grow food for the local community and those who come to stay. I would rate this place higher if I could. The people who come through here are super nice and welcoming to newcomers like myself. I got here and experienced this place before watching any documentaries about the garden and all I can say is the documentaries didn't do a good job at displaying the beauty of this place. There isn't a good way to describe the 'vibe' of the place if you will, you have to witness and experience this place to understand what they are really all about.
