I'm unsure if we caught her on a bad day, but our experience with the Why-Not Riding Stable was disappointing due to the owner's rude behavior. While her daughters were friendly, the owner greeted another group (White) warmly and ignored my family (Asian). The reason i emphasize this is because I felt a difference in the way we were treated compared to the other family. We were excited for the experience, it’s not a common thing to do in my home country. My family has never seen or touched a horse in real life. Throughout the ride, the owner made a few snide remarks directed only at my family, which we brushed off, thinking that may just be the way she communicates. Strict and Sarcastic. The briefing before the trail was short (less than 5 minutes), leaving us with little control over the horses who often did whatever they wanted. We tried our best with the instructions given to us. By the end of the ride, my dad’s horse wandered off, and when he was told to stop it by pulling, the owner screamed at him publicly, insisting he used incorrect technique. He apologized a dozen times before she said something regarding a complex horse-riding term about pressure and whatnot. I understand that the owner has a lot of love for these horses, it was apparent from the moment we first got to the stable. She handled them with such care. I just feel like the situation couldve been handled differently. She definitely didnt have to scream at my dad or make sarcastic remarks throughout the ride. My dad didnt mean any harm. This humiliating experience overshadowed our enjoyment. I remember more of that moment than the actual trail ride. There was so much more i wanted to ask about the stable and the horses, i couldnt bring up because of what had happened. I felt guilty being that I was the one who found the place. Given all the positive reviews, I really was not expecting the events that followed. I notice that I share a similar experience with most of the one-two star reviews. The other family received praises and a warm welcome, I really cant tell you the difference in how both our families rode and treated these horses. Please consider these low reviews before going there. I cannot recommend this place, especially if you are a person of color, unfamiliar with horses, or have a non-English speaking...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to this excited to experience horse riding together, however, it was completely ruined due to one of the guides during the trail ride. For the first few minutes everything was fine and enjoyable, but at one point when we came to a stop, one of the guides, a young girl, started to publicly yell at my boyfriend claiming that he was doing something wrong on the horse and pulling it. I was behind him and did not notice him doing anything wrong, so this caught me and him completely off guard. Instead of being respectful, she publicly embarrassed us and was being very rude, and completely ruined our experience. For the money we paid this was very disappointing and unprofessional. If you’re looking for a horseback riding experience, I recommend going elsewhere. Edit: just saw you replied, 5 months later by the way. Not only did you lie in your response, because not once did you say anything nicely or respectfully to my boyfriend before yelling at us, but you’re also very unprofessional in your reply to me. As a business owner you should treat your clients respectfully and politely, considering the money we spent. This only further proves my point that this business and the guides specifically are very unprofessional people....
Read moreFor many years my sister and I have preferred a particular riding stable in Lake Ariel, PA. Formerly known as Happy Trails, this stable is now under new management and name, Why-Not Riding Stables. This weekend I went with my 10 year old son, who is a completely new and inexperienced rider. This stable is now operated by a wonderful, nurturing and experienced family. The horses I have known for about 8 years look more beautiful and healthy than ever before. Their SUPER HUMANE treatment and care for these beautiful creatures, warmed my soul! Not only do they care for the horses that are working, but they also have rescued unwanted horses or ones the owners could longer afford to care for. I saw one of the newest rescues, and I knew, he was in good hands! If you are ever in the Poconos area and are considering going riding, I strongly recommend this place. After a very wet season which is also their first, they are struggling to survive. More than that, the family relaxed style of their trail is how riding should be! This is an amazing place, gorgeous views, but also run by my terrific...
