Billy's Asian Market — Local services in Landis

My son and I were pretty excited to visit the market we were looking for a specific kind of flour to fry chicken and we wanted to try some of the viral Mango ice creams that I was told you can get at an Asian market. My son and I were shopping in the market and a man behind the counter who was speaking in his native language but chose to speak in English when he said " see now we have monkeys !!! " and gestured his hands towards me and my son. My 9-year-old asked me "is he calling us monkeys"? This was very disappointing as a black American who was born in this great country. I'm not sure why foreigners can come here , start a business and pick and choose which Americans they want to mistreat. Extremely disappointing and unnecessary. Thank goodness we have an Asian food market close by. Sure, there are some things we can't find, but let's face it folks, we're not in New York City. I've been able to find most of the items that I need that local retail grocery stores don't carry to make Chinese dishes. It's getting harder and harder to find authentic Chinese food in our local Chinese restaurants. Some of them don't even use real Chinese vegetables in their dishes....maybe some bok choy and tons of broccoli. I found a cooking website, called the Woks of Life, and more authentic Chinese recipes there, and ingredients I can't get from Food Lion, I can get from Billy's store. Came in and found exactly what I was looking for. I called ahead to make sure they had the green curry paste I wanted, and found some other stuff I needed while I was there. Gentleman who helped me (whom I presumed was the owner) was very helpful. Everyone else was very nice as well, including the woman who checked me out. Was able to use what I bought to create a delicious and authentic tasting meal. So glad I didn’t have to drive all the way to Charlotte to find what I was looking for...or settle for the less authentic alternatives at food lion. Glad to have found this gem so near to our home.
