Robert Early, our tour guide, was a gem. Full of information that was not only interesting but entertaining. We were lucky to have a guide that loves his job.
Oak Alley Plantation tour was remarkable! Incredibly well-kept landscapes that showed an attention to details. Our guide, Ms. Jackie, brought the “Big House” to life with her stories about the families that occupied the home. She was truly a polished guide with a vast knowledge of the plantation.
I appreciate the change that has taken place to acknowledge the role that the slaves played in the growth and maintenance of the south. Oak Alley does a wonderful job of providing more than just a glimpse of this aspect of southern life.
The swamp tour was a “Cajun-filled” adventure. The guide (Captain Jerry?) was a true Cajun character. Full of stories (a little baloney added, I am sure) that captured everyone’s attention. Feeding the alligators (marshmallows and meat……marshmallows?) while telling us all he knew about gators and the swamp. Laws about hunting gators, levees, how to identify the gators (spots and bumps), crawdads, turtles, fish, weather and so much more.
It was obvious the gators knew that our boat was the “foot truck” so when the Captain got out the meat hook to feed them we were all treated to a gator feeding that was fun to record. Our Captain was a pro, bringing out jars with dead snakes, gator teeth and a live baby gator for everyone to see and touch.
Robert was a true pro when it came to timing. He knew when to let us have some quiet time (spent about 2 1/2 on bus) so we could digest all the information he was sharing.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning more about the south and having...
Read moreWe had a great morning kayaking - we saw lots of animals - gators and owls particularly. Amazing to see these animals in the wild! Our guide Nick was very knowledgeable and took us at a relaxed pace. Going in the morning meant it wasn’t as hot and the animals were quite active. The kayak was a fairly easy 2 hour paddle in calm waters. After that we were taken to a lovely spot for a traditional southern lunch by the water. Then we were taken to the Whitney plantation which is a great way to learn about the history of slavery in the south. It’s a beautiful site. We had a wonderful day and would definitely recommend this tour if you want to get out of New Orleans...
Read moreThe Whitney Plantation tour the Most!😍 We did the self- guided tour using Cajun Encounters. The tour was approx. 2hrs. Our driver Bam-Bam was nice . The drive was about 45mins each way. PLS, PLS, PLS don't Uber/Lyft as they don't pick you up. Per driver ppl have to figure out how to get back to the city. Bam-Bam had room on our bus and let those stranded ride home with us, for a hefty fee, of course. I hope they tipped him💵. If you don't want to use Cajun Encounters its probs easier and cheaper to rent a car for a day. Again DON'T UBER to the Whitney Plantation! I tried to buy everything at the gift store, so did all our...
