I took the first ever table building course at M2 Lumber on Friday and it was an amazing class! As a beginner in woodworking, the 9 hour course was an invaluable learning experience and gave me the confidence to continue pursuing woodworking. Matt is extremely knowledgeable and very detailed in his explanations of the building process and use of equipment/tools, and every question asked by those of us learning, no matter how small, was patiently answered.
I liked being able to learn and use all of the big equipment and machines such as the jointer, planer, chop saw, table saw, festool domino, drill press, and even hand tools. Technique was always explained and corrected when using the machines, and even though it was my first time using most of them, I felt less intimidated by them afterwards. I think learning to build a dining table start to finish was the perfect course because so many of the skills we learned will be applicable to most other woodworking projects. We even went a little bit over time, but Matt made sure that we finished and put the entire table together.
A huge thanks to Matt for putting these courses together, as these classes are extremely useful to a beginner like me. I also want to thank who I think is Matt's dad, who shared tons of knowledge and helpful instruction throughout the day. I can't wait to attend other courses...
Read moreThis dude, right here... customer service is second to none. My wife ordered (3) 10’ long slabs for a countertop for her new salon. We decided to only have Matt plane one side to save some of the thickness. They looked great and only required a little bit of finish sanding for the tops surface. A couple weeks later, once I started actually working with it I realized I really needed both surfaces planed in order for them to sit on the cabinets the way I need them to. Sent Matt a message and he replied right away but said he was going to be going out of town the next day and asked if it could wait a couple weeks. Unfortunately it had to be installed during the time he was going to be out of town, so I’d have to find someone else to do it for me. But nope. He told me to bring them that evening and we’d get it done. So that’s exactly what happened. Took them back out to him and he planed them for me, the evening before going out of town. And what did he charge me for the last minute aggravation I put him through?.... nothing.
In summary: super nice guy. Excellent customer service. Quality work. Go see this guy if you need any kind of “specialty” lumber. He does great work and he’ll get you...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience taking the resin class with Matt at M2 Lumber! We arrived the first day and started by selecting a piece of wood for our project. There were hundreds of pieces available, with highly varied looks. Anything from smooth with a uniform grain, to spalted and worm-holed, to highly textured. After selecting wood and sizing them to fit our molds, we cleaned any bark or debris from the surface and edges. I had a fun piece which required me to pick wood dust from dozens of worm holes (I even found the dried worm in one hole!). Next, we prepared, colored and poured our resin. This was a fun process in which we got to choose our own colors and even make custom mixes to our liking. The resin dried for a week before we returned for the next class. Week 2 consisted of removing the pieces from the forms, planing, sanding, and finishing the surface. This was all all-around great experience. Everything that was needed was provided, and the class size was perfect to allow interaction but still leave plenty of 1 on 1 help and teaching. I'd 100% recommend taking a class with M2 Lumber! Other classes are available on their...
