Clear Lake Voices — Local services in League City

I reached out to David during the pandemic, figuring that the best way to combat the ennui of social distancing was by giving my childhood dreams of getting voice training a try. I'm happy to say that it's now been over three years later, and I've learned so much about singing that it's opened a new world for me! I've expanded my range, I've learned control that I hadn't realized existed, I've learned what kinds of things to listen for to achieve different effects (and what exercises can help), and I've done all of this while learning stacks of different songs of just about any genre that catches our eye. We've varied the songs we use in class with material I bring from outside, some of it very obscure, and he's always looking to help me find my own twist on it. There was even a time when I joined a musical theater and we spent some portions of our classes reviewing the trickier songs, troubleshooting the pieces giving me trouble. He's patient in explaining what our goals are, he can demonstrate everything clearly and simply, and he always listens when I ask if we can focus on a particular skill I want to learn or improve on.

I grew up with parents that were choir directors and performers, but David has been my first formal instruction in the skill, and it's been a great experience. If you're looking for singing...

Just wanted to let you know that I went back to Florida this past weekend and got to play some music with some friends. All of them were very impressed with the progress that my voice has made! One of them being a girl who I think is by far one of the best vocalists I've ever heard (in person). She has sang on Broadway. After maybe 8 lessons with you? I'm very happy with that. I'm excited to see how much farther we can take it! I feel like with only 8 lessons we've only scratched the surface. I learn so much each lesson. Exactly like you said, singing is becoming easier and more consistent for me day by day. I do think part of the big progress is because you allow me to record the lessons, so I really get to redo the lesson every day until the next. I think that helps so much with the concepts and by the time the lesson hits the following week I'm ready for new material.

David is an amazing voice teacher. My son learnt from him for over five years and enjoys the benefit of it even today. In every class, without wasting a minute, David would start with voice warm ups, then work on a song including diction, breathing, projection, tone, musicality, and overall stage delivery. He would then iron out the kinks or the problem areas by giving good feedback. Over the years, my son turned into a good singer. David requests the student practices 5-10 minutes a day, and more before competitions, Regions and performances. David is thorough. My son won some awards and competitions and we credit him for that.
