I don’t know what to say about Ironhorse. It’s a great course, for sure. Great layout, great condition. It’s really, really hilly.
I guess the main thing about Ironhorse is it must be the toughest course in the world. If you mishit a shot, it’s almost always going to be a penalty. If you curve your ball, it’s going to be a penalty. You need to have total control of your ball at Ironhorse to even have a chance to score.
There are no holes with bail outs. Every hole is penalty left, penalty right. Usually with a forced carry from the tee also. It’s a hard course. You will lose balls.
That said, you will find balls also. In one penalty area looking for my ball I found 3 practically new V1’s.
If you hit it sideways at all, you’ll be losing balls, so bring more than a few.
I loved the course, I’m just not good enough to score on it. When every mishit is a penalty stroke, they add up quickly.
If I ever get straighter, I’d gladly play Ironhorse again. It is a very stern test of golf. The conditions were great. My score,...
Read moreThis one star is primarily cuz I’m hella annoyed they don’t have tee’s on their driving range mats. They don’t let you stand on the grass to tee your ball up, which makes no sense because the grass right in front of the mats isn’t ever used for anything…short tees are too short and normal tees are too high. Plus they fly all over the place on every shot. Lost hundreds of tees there. I got called out by the GM for hitting off the grass today. He was really nice about it, but doesn’t change the fact that it’s perhaps the dumbest rule I’ve been forced to follow. Note to Iron Horse management — put some rubber tees or tee holders in your mats or open the grass tee. And unrelated, lower your prices. Your course...
Read moreBeautiful challenging course owned by the city and run by the Troon company. This is not a Scottish links style course. Often tight fairways, be sure to bring extra balls as my group learned finding anything in the grown up first cut rough or second cut (lost) was really challenging. Plenty of overgrown trees to grab them as well if you’re fortunate enough to miss the creek begging for your shot throughout the course.
The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in really good shape. The edge of the greens were struggling and proved putting/chipping just off of the green was frustrating.
Excellent cart service that we saw plenty of times around the course.
I welcome the opportunity to...
