I can sharpen most things myself, but I struggle with high-quality scissors and axes, and when I got together a pile of dull things for which I needed sharpening, my order was: a pair of barbering scissors that wouldn't cut hair anymore; an old East African machete, rusty and pitted; several dull folding work knives; and a mixture of old hatchets and axes that had been used and abused on a farm, chopping wood and tree roots, full of chips and dents. I would say the sharpening needs for this batch of tools ranged from somewhat dull to what my 14-year old would characterize as "yikes omfg lmao r u serious bruh these are cooked."
So I made an appointment. I dropped off my stuff. About a week later, I got an email that they were ready. I coordinated text for pickup. Pickup was a breeze. In fact, the entire process was contact-less and pain-less. I never saw the sharpener. I never saw anyone actually, and that was fine with me.
The sharpening itself was great. I got an email explaining what sharpening had been done, and he even explained the degrees in the angle of the edge he'd applied to my knives. All the edges are sharp. The axes are shiny and have good smooth edges. The old African machete, which was rusty and spent last winter on top of a log in the forest, was shined up and usable again with a nice sharp blade. Everything turned out better...
Read moreEvery few years we get our kitchen knives professionally sharpened, and the results are pretty good. When I got my knives back from Matt, I discovered what truly exceptional sharpening service is like.
The drop-off/pick-up scheduling service is simple, straightforward, and convenient for anyone local. Communication with Matt borders on delightful - professional, courteous, and clear.
I had a total of nine kitchen knives sharpened in two batches, including restoration of one knife with a broken tip (no one in my family believes this is the same knife that Dad broke).
It's clear Matt loves his work, and it shows - right down to the packaging of your knives when you pick them up.
My only complaint is that Matt's YouTube videos made me lose a few hours of chore time one weekend - I couldn't stop watching. Don't judge; you go ahead and start watching one and see if you don't wake up with your face planted on the keyboard because you kept watching one after the other for hours on end late...
Read moreI came across American Edge Sharpening through a recommendation of a former knife sharpener. Right from the start I was able to visit a very professional website that allowed me to see who this company was and what type of services they offered. In addition the owner (Matt) offers you the ability to set up a drop off date right on his website. This is next level professional! You then drop the items needed to be sharpened and you leave it in a box that has a padlock on it. After a day or two (depending on what you have to sharpen), you receive an email back stating your items are ready for pick up. I wish that all local companies were this professional to deal with! We received our 16 piece knife set back with all of our knives professionally sharpened and now the Chef in our house is much happier. If you need anything sharpened, do yourself a favor and reach out to American...
