The other day my son and daughter in law decided that their children needed a dog to grow up with as they both had. So I tagged along to put in my 2 cents worth. When we arrived we donned out mask and walked in. We were greeted by an employee who advised us that only 1 at a time would be allowed to tour the facility at a time. This struck me as odd as it would be the whole family adopting a new member to the family. 1st order of business was qualifying so we went outside to the picnic table and I chased the grandkids as my son filled out the application. We recieved a call saying that they were approved. They had said that 1 person and 1 child could enter. But not 2 people. My son went in and said he would write down the names of the ones he liked. We waited. Then it seems they had a change of heart and would allow the whole family to come in and see the dog my son liked. We were brought in temps taken and shoes put on the kids feet. We were led to the outside exercise yard where a beautiful dog was waiting for us. I didnt get to socialize much as I was to busy keeping shoes on my grandsons feet. Hes like his Gigi, he likes being bare foot. A list of questions were given to my son as we left him to make the final decision. Decision made this young man would soon be joining our crazy family. My daughter in law and I took the kids home and prepared to receive our newest member. All in all it was an ok experience but I thought it was a bit extreme not to allow the 2 adults who would be sharing their home in together. I was there to take care of the kids. We are happy to say that our new addition is settling in fine and is sporting a new name.

We take our kiddos here to love on the animals. Mostly the cats, (since the dogs are a little too big for our girls), but it’s free! And the kitties love the love.

I love Lexington humane society so much! When I lost my cat Ozy due to seizures I was devastated. I new I wanted another cat but I didn't wanna take the first one I saw. I wanted to build a connection first ya know? Well I discovered that they needed Foster's for kittens. So that's what I become. It's a rollercoaster of emotions but mostly good ones. Don't get me wrong sickness and death happens no matter what. I've dealt with it all. But then one day I get a call for two bottle babies needing me. I didn't hesitate I said yes and started my journey on learning to bottle feed a 3 day old kittens. Well when I got home and pulled the big black fuzzy one out I instantly new I was gonna adopt him when the time came. He looked identical to my Ozy. But there was a second kitten just way smaller than the fuzz ball. And me and my bf took turns each day and night to feed these guys every two hours. Well as they grew and the time was getting closer and closer to adoption time my bf finally confessed to me that he also loved Tiny and can't choose between him and Bear. I laughed and cried cause I was thinking the same thing but to scared to say something thinking he wouldn't want two cats. And I told him looks like we are parents to two instead of one this time. But before we could adopt them they had to go back for surgery. It was the longest two days with out my boys. I felt so empty and lonely without them home. Then we finally got the phone call we can come pick them up and here we are 11 months later still going strong. But instead of me and dad being foster parents my two boys are AMAZING foster brothers. Don't get me wrong first litter I brought home they kinda freaked out. Until I finally opened the door and tiny and bear ran into the room and was sniffing all the babies. At this point the mom cat got really sick and I had to separate her from the babes. And it was like the boys just new the little ones needed them to step up. I have never seen male cats be so affectionate and licks and plays with such small kittens but they do.. the humane society really does care about each and every single one of their animals. I love the fact they fix all them before adopting them out so we won't worry about no more babies from them or something happening to them cause they done went in heat and now acting crazy to get to another cat or dog. So it really does save lives. Plus there's so so so many animals homeless and in shelters that needs homes. Becoming a foster mom to the kittens and cats has been so rewarding. I've learned so so much. One litter of kittens I had there were 5 one of the girls third eyelid got stuck to her eye. It was crazy looking and broke my heart I done everything I could to correct it. Unfortunately nothing worked so when she went for surgery to be fixed they also fixed her eye so she would be adopted. I've had a lot of sick ones come through my door and they have taught me how to give them the medicine. I've learned how to force feed small ones when they are refusing to eat. Like I really have saved so many little lives cause they just wanted to give up but I refused to let that happen. And now they are in their forever homes growing big and strong. Fostering is hard don't get me wrong. Everything isn't always great but the humane society is there for you every step of the way. I plan to start volunteering there once or twice a week and I cannot wait. I know the foster team side pretty well I just know the rest of the place will be just as amazing. It's awesome seeing these people that working with these animals actually like their jobs and love the animals. I haven't had a bad experience here and I've been with them over a year now. And I hope many many many more. I am on the hunt for a female to add to my all boy house...

I live with my parents and siblings and all together we have 8 dogs, and 6 cats. In the last year we have got all the ones that were not fixed, fixed. That's 5 cats and 5 dogs that we had to get fixed. We used LHS "Spay's the Way" program for them. We of course could only do a couple at a time, as once they were fixed they had to be separated from other animals for a few days. When I took my 2 cats they were rude and when my mom picked them up they were as high as kites! I thought, maybe it was just a one time thing. My parents took their dogs- again, the people were rude. When I took my mothers and sister's cat they were rude and come to find out, 2 of them were a boys. They were EXTREMELY rude when they told us, "What you don't know how to tell a male from a female?" Again, the cats were so high they couldn't stand up. I had to take my dog and moms this past week. My mom had forgot not to feed them- so I tried to call LHS before driving ALL the way there. No answer. So I drove all the way there asked them what to do, and they said that they could do the surgery or reschedule. When I said that I didn't really want to reschedule because I had already rescheduled to get this appointment she was rude and said, "Yeah, well that's a problem because we only have a limited number of spaces." I decided to go ahead and have the three of them get the surgery. When filling out the paperwork I put their nicknames and I told the woman to please not call them by their full names and we only use them when they're in trouble, to please use their nicknames. The woman proceeded to tell me that they'd (the dogs) "be out" for what they needed to do. I responded, "Well, in case you need to talk to them." Her response, "Why would I do that?" By this point I had had little sleep, was trying to be polite, loosing my patience, but decided it would be fine. When I went to pay I came to find out only 1 of the dogs was $40, the other 2 were $45/ dog! When I filled out the paperwork to see if I was even eligible I was told $40/ dog! When I asked why there was a price difference I was told because of their size and age. They all weigh within 10 pounds of each other, 2 of them are the exact same age as they came out of the same litter, the other one was a little over 9 months old. Whatever, I paid the $130 for the three of them then came back to get them at about 4:30. They all looked like they had been traumatized, and not drowsy at all (I was told since they had ate that morning they would do them last). I get home and separate them like I'm suppose to. I look at their paperwork- first of all my dogs name isn't even spelled right! next, my mom's dog is listed on one page as a male, on another as a female. They have the incorrect weight for each of the dogs on their paperwork, the incorrect age, and all different breeds- THEY ARE ALL RELATED- THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME FATHER! After this event I have decided to NEVER go back to LHS. I would rather pay full price and make sure my animals are getting the care they deserve, then pay a "discount" and have my animals be traumatized. Feel free to do what you want, but I will NEVER recommend Lexington Humane Society...

I don't own pets. So what follows is my EXPERIENCE. A cat was dumped on my block. I called around, this was the only option, but there's no pickup. So I borrow a carrier to bring in this lovely black cat who needs neuter and a home. I was told when I come early, call the number, a officer (of what?) would greet and take the animal. Great. I leave home early to do so. No one answers. I go to the door. I have the cat. I explain I have to go to work. No one seems particularly in a hurry. Fine. An officer (get to her soon) eventually comes, asks 2 questions says meet at the other door. Now I've opened the carrier to hand them the cat. He jumps out, I grab him. He's fine. Sweet. So I'm standing at building A, HOLDING this lovely cat. A garbage truck begins dumping. He FREAKS out. He gets through one dumpster. I'm sitting there calming him. The second one though... he couldn't take it, he went crazy and scratches me all up. It's obvious he was abandoned to a dumpster once upon a time. He runs off. She comes out "I saw I was watching." THEN WHAT WERE YOU WAITING FOR??? Now he's out running around. She's more interested in photo'ing my license plate and crossing her arms like a 14yr old and lecturing me about dumping. I wasn't dumping, he was dumped ON ME. I have to go to work, people. "There's due process." That's a criminal phrase referring to my rights as a citizen. It has nothing to do with cats. I followed the process and get a lecture and no help and now the poor cat is running around on the property scared out of his mind by the equipment. I don't bring in animals... in the America I grew up in, there was this thing called service: they picked them up. But I can tell you this... I will NEVER use the humane society to help a lost animal again. Un.believable. I'm covered in blood, and all I get is gruff attitude from a jumped up "LEO" setting her jaw like it's my fault she doesn't answer the phone. I couldn't help but say if you have time to watch ion camera you could have opened the door. Last thing. This cat is a sweet and obviously domesticated cat. I hope he's found. But I am distraught he was treated as a process. I thought I was handing him to humanity. Not even I - the human - got humanity. Unreal.

No one cares about your power lady. They care about...
