My wife & I have taken the beginner bonsai (juniper & jade) class together [with Joe as the instructor] & I took the advanced beginner class (Chinese elm) with a friend of ours [with Rich & Michael as instructors]. This place is amazing! These people care deeply about these wonderful trees. And they care deeply about the students, the learning experience and fully incorporate the idea of relaxation, zen & Chi as a part of their instructional techniques. The property is absolutely beautiful, prices seem very reasonable and the staff is very knowledgeable & helpful. I highly recommend visiting Bonsai West. Even if you don’t buy anything, just come to look around at all of the wonderful trees. So beautiful! Below are photos of the bonsai we created in the class. This has been a great start to our new bonsai lifestyle.

My partner and I just took the Juniper introductory class with Joe and Michael (the owner), and had an absolute blast. I'm so happy with and excited to begin caring for my tree, and the love that the staff at Bonsai West have for the craft is apparent and infectious. For three hours of close instruction and a tree to take home, the price is extremely reasonable as well. The classes, as I write this, are all full so give a call and get on the waiting list if that's still true whenever you read this! What a delightful date 😁

Michael has been kind enough to share valuable information with me each time I visit. The trees are beautiful. Zuma is exceptionally talented. Bonsai is a wonderful hobby that has highs and lows. Its good and hard at the same time to learn a new lesson. And everytime I walk around the nursery, I can see all the lessons learned by the caretakers and how they apply that experience to wirung a tree, potting, pruning, where its placed in the garden etc. All of it is so thoughtfully done and done so with years of experience. Its something that I can appreciate. I disagree with some of the negative comments. Bonsai West is a great business. I am very much looking forward to learning more, taking classes with Michael/Zuma and...

This is a wonderful full service bonsai nursery! I know very little about Bonsai but had a great visit there. I "attended" a very informal 3 hour free presentation that was going on. People were allowed to wander in and out during the workshop while an amazing and large multi piece Bonsai sculpture/garden was being constructed by a Bonsai expert (Master?) from Europe. What an experience! They have an absolutely amazing collection of Bonsai to view and some amazing Bonsai for sale, plus classes, workshops, nursery stock to start your own Bonsai from, tools, pots, and very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful staff. I even learned that they will take in your Bonsai for you when you are travelling or when it's sick to bring it...
