My 93-year-old father-in-law was a customer of Littleton Coin Company. To put it mildly, I am not impressed. After his recent death, I started dealing with Littleton to get his affairs settled. The first problem I have with them is an outstanding invoice from three months ago. They had sent him at least two collection-type notices for this outstanding invoice yet even though the invoice was overdue, they continued to send him additional product. He apparently paid all invoices after the past due invoice, but I have a problem with continuing to send him more to pay for if he hadn't paid for some. I believe it was an oversight on his part, but what if he was unable to pay and they continued to pile on more debt for him to pay. We found all but one of the items on the past due invoice and returned them with a check to pay for the one unfound item. I was told when I called to report his passing that they had already sent out another shipment. Another box came in a few days and I took it to the post office marked "refused. return to sender". (When I contacted them again, they said they had written that amount due off. I said they didn't need to do that because I had sent it back and I had sent back the items from the past due invoice.) A week later, we were back at my father-in-law's house to work on it some more and there were two more shipments from Littleton. I did open those and saw they were shipped after I had called to report his passing. I also sent those back. Now, the worst part...I went to a reputable coin dealer to try to liquidate his assets and found that none of the coins he owned were worth even close to what he paid for them. The dealer looked them up and showed me the value. I firmly believe my father-in-law should have been able to spend his money on whatever he wanted, even if it was frivolous and that the value in these coins was the enjoyment he got out of owning them. That being said, I also believe Littleton took advantage of my father-in-law. I would not ever trust to buy anything from them if I were looking for an investment.
1-26-2021 On 1-18-2021, I called Littleton Coin and talked with Liana. I was told at that time that my father-in-law's account was at zero. That is when they told me they had written off any amount due on his account. Sunday 1-25-21 when we were at my father-in-law's house cleaning, we brought the mail in and there was a letter, dated Jan 12, 2021, from Nicole at Littleton stating that my father-in-law's balance due is over $900. I called in the morning on 1-25-2021 and had to leave a message. After receiving no callback, I called later in the afternoon and was able to speak with Nicole personally. To make a long story short, she said they always try to collect on the outstanding bills, but after a death they write them off. At the end of the conversation, she said we do not know anything.
Rick from Littleton replied to this review, which I appreciate, and offered me the opportunity to call and speak with him personally. I did not call him because I have spent a lot of time on the phone with this company already and just did not want to spend any more time. Also, not sure how much time he spent reading the review because he sent condolences on the death of my grandfather, not...
Read morePredatory company on Americaâs Silent Generation, like my grandmother. I currently serve in the US military as active duty; that takes me away from my grandmother whom Iâm focused on helping and supporting. I make sure to visit home from abroad as often as possible to help with her errands and livelihood.
What I donât appreciate when I come back is finding predatory people or companies taking advantage of my now 87 years old grandma.
The items purchased are legit and of good quality. There are no qualms about that, and in fact, my grandpa has bought plenty of coins from here before.
Where Littleton has lots their credibility and class recently is with their âCoins on Approvalâ program where they send a sample with any purchase.
The sample they sent was - Content: (1) One dollar coin, (1) dime (3) nickels, and (3) pennies. A total of $1.28. My grandma was charged over $35.00 for this! My grandma had only wanted and purchased a 50 quarter set for less than $20.00. The sample was both more worthless and doubly as expensive as the product. They charged about $36.00 for less than $2.00 of actual product. That is a SCAM and it is absurdly predatory on our elderly.
Whatâs worse is that when you return the sample, they will send you another sample for a nonstop cycle! I had to call customer support to formally request a stop to this.
Either way, this company has it set up to extract extra money through a lack of ethics and respect for our good Americans.
Who knows how much this company could have siphoned from my grandma if I hadnât caught wind of this through my grandmaâs confusion. My grandpa was a frequent victim to these ordeals and tactics as he lost his mind in the last of his days.
My grandpa had actually showed me his proud coin collection helped from this company. But after this âcoins on approvalâ scam and the 7 brochures and advertisements with methods of payment included, Littleton has dissolved what respectable credibility theyâve had and built since the 1940âs.
Shame.

Read moreI am a first time buyer going through Littleton Coin Company. I have receiving there information in the mail and I finally decided to give them a try instead of there competitor that I normally buy from. I had my eye on a 1957 $1 silver certificate star note. I went on the Littleton Coin company website and found a 1957 $1 silver certificate star note with the serial number 00002603A. I was very excited and I placed my order for that 1957 $1 silver certificate with that serial number that was advertise on the websites and could not wait to get it! I received my order today and my 1957 $1 silver certificate star note with that low serial number that I was excited for was not what I received in the mail from Littleton Coin Company. I received 1957 $1 silver certificate star note with serial number 58447988C. I called Littleton Coin Company customer service line to tell them I did not receive what I ordered. I was told by the person on the phone that what you see on the website is not what you are going to get and that Littleton Coin company gives you you ordered but not the serial number you see on the website and the company is not going to update the website every time a item is sold. I think that is in my mind false advertisement because you are not getting what you have ordered / advertised on their site. This becomes a buyer beware situation. As a first time buyer to the Littleton coin company I am very disappointed in the product that I received and will be returning.
Rick, Thanks for your reply. My I add that maybe you need to invest in your company with technology infrastructure and inventory your company assets and display correctly on your website. This way your website will list and show what you have in inventory and your customers like myself will get what is ordered. Your competitors due just this. I order there item is comes off their website. Until this happens itâs buyer beware on...
