I want to take issue with Robert Hooser's review.
The furniture upstairs at the General Store is made locally. A few years ago, I bought a beautiful, oak quilt rack and was able to speak to the local craftsman. You may have seen a, "Made in China" label on some of the kitchen gadgets being sold in the General Store, but the vast majority of home decorating items are hand-crafted items.
The Muddy Pond area is loaded with craftsman of all kinds. Some friends of ours were able to find someone to repair and restore an antique saddle originally made in Saudi Arabia, who did a beautiful job.
The people of Muddy Pond are authentic. They are Mennonite - not Amish.

These shops had similar food products as the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, but the prices are more reasonable, so we bought jams, mustards, spices and other items.
