We stayed at the Cozy Cub cabin for two nights and loved every minute of it! The inside was definitely cozy and very clean and welcoming. The smell walking in was just a very woodsy smell, very pleasant! It was well stocked with everything you would need, just bring food! I had brought a couple of towels with us just in case as most places really don't have enough towels, but not here, holy cow there were an abundance of towels, seriously, I didn't count but there had to be 20+! The bed was really comfy with a weighted blanket that added to the comfort and 4 not flat pillows, yay! The deck out back had amazing views whether in the hot tub or sitting at the table, it was just beautiful! The fire pit area provided awesome views out there as well. There were some things not perfect so I'll explain because this is a review that needs the good and the bad. But even the imperfections weren't big enough to ruin our time at all, we loved the place. The porch and deck could have used a good sweeping. The controls on the grill were a little wonky, I could only get the temp up to about 350 but it still cooked our chicken and steak! The hot tub was slightly dirty but nothing that the net and a chlorine tablet (in the closet lol) couldn't fix! The bathtub plug for the drain just would not work at all, but a wadded up grocery sack in the drain worked perfectly lol. There wasn't phone service in the cabin, but walking up the drive would pick up a signal in various spots, no problem for us though, we didn't want to be on our phones. The pond was more of a big puddle lol but the water level did look low. It still provided water wildlife so we didn't mind. I know some have complained about the steep drive, and it is very steep, but it wasn't undrivable at all for our van, in snow or heavy rain a 4 wheel drive would definitely be safer but their website does advise it anyways. That's it for the negative in our experience! I would highly recommend this cabin. It was beautiful inside and out, great price, absolute seclusion, and lots of wildlife, including a friendly doggo named Scout! Thank you Riley Ridge for the wonderful accomodations!

Read moreRenting the cabin was easy, they answered the phone, the lady was very nice, reservation process was quick. The cabin was easy enough to find as we are familiar with the area. Lonestar needs some love. Power washing the deck needs done. The gas grill was nice to have, but filthy. The hot tub water was clean and hot, but seemed like someone tried to clean it with cleanser at one time and felt gritty. Jets all worked well. Outside fire pit was nice. Alot of garbage was under the deck, which we cleaned up...||We were super disappointed that the glasses, plates, silverware, cookware, etc, it was all quite nasty. Washed everything. Had to. there was some bleach under the sink, thank goodness, and sanitized the cutting board, etc.. No dish towels or dish rags, had to grab hand towels and wash rags from the bathroom. Pots&Pans need replaced. Every time I used the oven, the smoke alarm went off. Dining room chairs were pretty wobbly. I brought a bunch of movie DVD's, and music CD's and thank goodness I did because the T.V. had no cable or WiFi. The Blue Ray player was the hero of our trip. We had a fire going the whole time and couches were very comfy. We slept upstairs, mattress is generic, but bedding was clean. I never used the jacuzzi tub, upstairs bathroom was nice. The balcony was nice. The shower is in the main bathroom downstairs, water pressure was good, but orange slime was coming off the nasty shower curtain, and the drain needs some Drano, as I found myself standing in 2 inches of the nasty water... There was some bathroom cleaner under the sink, so, I washed down the shower curtain to make it usable for our stay. Wal Mart sells shower curtains for $5 bucks, just sayin'. The towels were clean, but old and worn out, not a bit of fluff left in them! So, we got to get away for a couple of days, build fires, relax in the hot tub, cook some delicious food... Just wish we didn't have to work so hard at cleaning things that should have already been clean. I'll tell you that the people who rented the Lonestar after us found it how we should...
Read moreJust finished our stay at the Lone Star Cabin and was absolutely impressed with our stay! We, just like you most likely are, read the reviews before booking, and I read some past comments or "issues" others have had that I would like to clear up.
-First, the hot tub was not hot when we got here because the owners drain and re-fill it between stays. It was clean water and after 1 hour its up to temp. This is a good thing and as a hot tub owner myself, I am very happy they do this!
-Second, The knives are indeed kind of dull, but that is something with all these cabins. If you are going to make visiting cabins like this a regular thing, do like we do and get a cheap travel set of knives to bring with you. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we could need so no issues there.
-Third, The cabin was spotless when we arrived. I can tell they went the extra mile and cleaned the cabin very well. One of the cleanest cabins we have stayed at yet.
-Last but not least, PEOPLE PEASE STOP FEEDING THE WILDLIFE!!! As I have read in other comments as well as the guest stay book in the cabin, many people have been feeding the "cute" raccoons on the property. DO NOT DO THIS!!! This causes issues for future guests as they come accustomed to people giving them food and making other guests feel unsafe on the property! I cannot understand how people do this and think it is okay, ITS NOT! Overall the Raccoons on the property was the only real issue I have with this place and I pin this more on the people who have stayed here in the past. Because of their unacceptable behavior they made the wildlife somewhat a bother.
Even with the Last point I made, This was not enough of an issue to cause me to not come back. In fact, of all the cabins we have stayed at in the Hawking Hills Area, This is the first one we will definitively come back to. Location is amazing and the cabin itself was perfect! Owner was easy to get ahold of and everything was well maintained....
