I've shopped here for over 22 years.GSG always has had a large selection of healthy plants. I could not begin to estimate how much money I have spent there over more than 2 decades. This particular day I spent over $100. Other than checking out, I've never needed customer service before. However, today I did and I was not impressed. At the register, I ordered bags of 1/2 inch crushed white marble. After finishing checking out, I drove my car around to the side where employees load your car. I twice told the group of a few men what I ordered. I got out and opened the rear hatch and checked the first bag after it was laoded. It was correct. They finished loading and I drove home. At home, while unloading, I discovered I had been given two bags of 1/2 inch and two bags of 1 inch stone, so back I drove to GSC. When I got back to the loading area, I returned the two incorrect bags but the employee could only find one more bag of the 1/2 inch. I wish I had known. Other sold-out mulch and stone items were marked "sold out inside". In this case the display could have noted that there were only 3 bags left. I then had to go inside to get a refund for one bag. The guy who had done the latest loading had come in to explain the situation to a cashier. She clarified by asking me, " So you are getting a refund for one bag?" I said yes and something about appreciating something more than that for all the aggravation and suggested an additional bag be taken off. I got several defensive-sounding sorries, nothing more. In my opinion a sincere--sounding apology as well as a free bag or maybe a $5.00 coupon for a future purchase would have been reasonable tokens in this situation, given the fact that A.I didn't make the mistake. B. I had the aggravation and inconvenience of driving back. C. In the end, I wasn't even able to get all the rock I wanted.
I have plans to do extensive landscaping work, but I won't be spending my money here. Other local garden shops will get my business from now on. Some people reading this willl wonder if what happened is a big deal. I'd say, if this is how I'm treated over something small, what can I expect with a problem with a big order? Many of the low/lower reviews for this establishment mention poor customer service. It appears that customer service issues are not a...
Read moreGoing to the Great Swamp Greenhouses is truly one of the most beautiful and welcoming experiences during ANY time of year.
I have been to the Swamp every season and every one of them is stunning.
Spring: Wow! The varieties of shrubs, annuals, and perennials are endless. Inside of the greenhouse is flooded with new blooms from the annuals. It’s a beautiful time to be outside and shop with one of the friendly staff members who are more than willing to answer any and all of my questions.
Summer: all of the summer blooms are out! This is less busy than springtime and you might have more time with an associate. There are many veggies to choose from too. There’s usually a sale at the end of summer on shrubs and other things.
Fall: SO MANY PUMPKINS! And fun fall foliage. Did I forget to mention the mums? The mums are endless, great quality, and cheaper than anywhere near.
Winter: this is WHERE to get your Christmas tree. But come in the morning if you can, it’s much less busy. It’s a Christmas wonderland. The amount of poinsettias alone will make you come here. Along with every single thing you could need to decorate for Christmas.
There are bays dedicated to houseplants and succulents. I am such a fan of this place. And the employees who work here go out of their way to help you find exactly what you need.
Please visit! You won’t...
Read morePurchased an 8’ Christmas tree from the place. 70 bucks of solid quality like you would find at any place other than Home Depot. Took the family to pick it out Friday after Thanksgiving thinking it would be a nice experience. I have 2 5 year olds. They saw a small rain deer on the floor and picked it up. One of them dropped it by accident sending an antler across the floor. Went to the cash register to tell the cashier. Come to find out the item is listed for 60 bucks and charged me half. I am a huge believer in if you break it you buy it but leaving delicate merchandise on the floor and then charging customers seems like a poor design and practice. After that expense we came outside to retrieve the tree and had to request it be cut fresh. Upon unwrapping it to mount onto the stand notice the cut was not done properly and took about 10 branches off myself to accept the stand properly. Disappointed to say this but the place seems more interested in charging than on serving customers. No real holiday feel from the place either. There are so many great places around. Not sure this is very good for the premium charged. (Not including 31...
