The course was plugged and punched and played as such. Putts were unable to roll true and we got many unplanned bounces due to the dirt plus laying all over the place. Due to the course conditions that is why I said it was not worth the $90 price. See the pics.
The other big obvious change was the removal of a ton of trees making the sight line more friendly based on our playing partner comments. The fringe was crunchy and not smooth too. No clean contact area near most greens making pitches and chips very interesting.
With this said give this course about three weeks and it will be in amazing shape. I could tell this was a nice track and the course is more of a resort style course. The fairways are plenty wide and the greens were huge. The bunkers were well placed and in fantastic shape too.
We saw the beverage cart multiple times. The clubhouse was speedy for food pick up. It was nice to have the range balls included but I personally hate hitting off the mats. The practice area was extremely busy but I had not issues finding somewhere to warm up. However I did question the pin distances based on the warm up spaces.
Recommended improvement would be for the the starter to let you know the pin positions and ask if you have played the course before to provide a better welcoming experience. I would also recommend having a few more club cleaning water stations on the range and make sure the sand bottles on the cart are topped off or have stations around the course to pick up filled bottles. Ours were almost empty and were done...
Read moreOur foursome played the morning of 5-12-2018. Over the past 6 weeks I've played rounds at Twin Lakes (twice), Herndon Centennial and Reston National; Laurel Hill was not only the most expensive course but also in the worst shape. Grass on the tee boxes and fairways was clumpy and limp - laying down, which indicated to me that it was too long - instead of uniform and springy. There were already medium-sized bare areas in the rough along with lots of clover and weeds. This was surprising - even though the weather has been cool and damp, the course looked like it would around mid-summer; now is when the course should be in its prime. I don't see that the course is worth the price now, and the weather will only get hotter.
FOLLOW-UP REVIEW I've now played Laurel Hill twice since, including today (6-20-18), and the course conditions have dramatically improved. The course is in great shape - not sure what happened with respect to my prior review, but perhaps the rain and overall cool conditions in June revived the course.

Read moreCourse is in great shape. Hopefully they keep tee times spread out so volume stays low and the course can stay in good shape. Pace was good, though I did play on a Monday. Just played here September 18, 2023 @ 137pm.
Low stars are for the interactions I had with your starter. I was coming on as a single and he was pairing me up with another single. He told me to go find him around the putting practice area, nothing out of the ordinary. I asked for clarification as to what he might look like, since there are typically 3-6 people putting at a time. He said “he looks just like you”. I asked him to clarify what he meant or just tell me a color shirt. He said he doesn’t remember the shirt color but he told me to go ask all the “chinamen” if they are last name.
The fact that this guy is so comfortable not only shouting this in front of the club but also doubling down is incredible. He is public facing and wearing apparel with the Laurel hill logo and effectively represents the club. Put him on ball picker duty or something, get him out...
