Updated review June 2025.
Used to be one of my favorite companies In terms of in person customer service as well as email service. The quality of the shirts in their fit has gone way down since the OG days (the tropo-fitted no longer fits like a fitted shirt) and the pants wear quickly (pilling) despite only being used for international trips not even domestic frequency. Disappointed and cannot recommend anymore. Somehow I'm going to have to make the quality shirts that they used to sell, last the next 25 years.
For the latest saga, purchased this belt as a spare, The holes ripped in the non-convertible Miami belt and it was replaced.
Wore the replacement belt with the new uniform late May, one trip later the pin screws that hold the leather belt in place to the buckle shattered and went everywhere in the flight deck
This convertible belt does not last, save your money and shop elsewhere. You will thank me later. Customer service tells me that despite only been used on one trip, it will not be replaced.
Save your hard-earned money and buy a genuine real leather belt that lasts somewhere else.
Original review: Made a reservation on their website for a pant and blazer measurement and fitting. Michele was the CSR. A welcoming experience given the last couple of weeks in the training puzzle palace.
Overall a positive and welcoming experience, and helpful tailor. The alterations were ready within an hour on this...
Read moreI have been a customer of A Cut Above since roughly 2018. When I first began ordering my uniform shirts from them, the quality and fit was excellent. I was pleased with the products I was buying.
I have to say, however, that quality and fit have slowly gotten worse since the beginning of 2020. I have ordered sweaters that came with parts poorly sewn, and ripped after being worn only a few times. The button on one of the epaulets fell off in about the same time frame. To their credit, they replaced the items, but the replacements were of equally poor quality.
I recently ordered what will be my last shirts from A Cut Above. The shirts are of the same size, style, and cut as I have always ordered, Cirrus size 17. This time, however, the shirts are cut very poorly. There is excess material across the top of the shoulders, yet not enough across the back. I feel like Chris Farley in the jacket scene in "Tommy Boy". Both my dry cleaners and myself struggle to get them neatly pressed due to the way these things are sewn together.
I reached out to A Cut Above and was told that they could see no visible defect, and that I would be unable to return them since they had been worn. Bearing in mind that all of my previous size 17 Cirrus shirts still fit fine, it is my opinion that this is further evidence of the downward trend in quality of A Cut Above. It is a real shame, since these were once the best pilot shirts...
Read moreI ordered a $150 jacket in person at their store and they said it would take 2 months to ship. It ended up taking over 6 months to arrive to me, in June. I tried it on once and noticed it didn’t fit right, I emailed them about this and they said they’d only be able to replace it with a 25% restocking fee. I obviously didn’t trust they’d replace it properly considering they got it wrong the first time, so I asked them to replace it for free to make it right. They never responded and I forgot about it considering it was June. Once the cold weather hit I remembered that the jacket didn’t fit right, and I noticed that the jacket actually is the wrong size. I double checked my receipt and I did order the correct size, they just sent me something I didn’t order. I attempted to contact them again, and they said because it had been over 90 days they can’t offer me their return policy (which is a 25% restocking fee, which is not something I would do anyway considering they sent me the wrong item). Disappointing that I waited that long and can’t even get the right item or get it corrected. Completely understand that I could’ve been more proactive in checking when I received it why it didn’t fit right, but you’d think the company would be more...
