The facility looks nice. Itās disappointing that there are no bathroom facilities. We stopped by there around 4 pm today on our way back from visiting our son in Md. My wife used to shop there some years ago. She loved it then hence our stop today. The doors were locked with a sign on the door saying there were portajohns somewhere on the property for patrons to use. I walked around all the various buildings never finding them. She looked forward to shopping there but that wasnāt to be. There were dealers there working in the various sheds there but apparently they were closed on a Friday mid afternoon? Lots of customers milling about. Another shop at the light there was open and my wife bought something there but againā¦ā¦no restrooms. She suggested I go across the street to the Shell station/convenience store. I had just stopped there for fuel but strangely their apparently new pumps had a problem with debit/credit cards? They wanted you to leave your card with the clerk and then go back out and pump your gas. Hmmmā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦thatās more than a bit concerning.Thankfully I had a half a tank and could wait. Nopeā¦ā¦ā¦wasnāt going to use their restroom either. So long story shortā¦ā¦ā¦..weāll never stop there again (store or shops). I realize restrooms require extra maintenance. The hardware chain I work for has them. And his and hers āgasp! I doubt the law requires it because we donāt serve food. But dammitā¦ā¦..itās the right thing to do. Next time visiting our son weāll take...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy sisters and I have been visiting this place for over 15 years and have purchased several thousands of dollars of furniture and different items over the years. My sister in moving to Florida so we wanted to do one last visit together. How disappointing! Previous years, they were very friendly, kind and eager to help with anything even to load your car up. This visit was way different. I felt like they were doing us a favor for letting us shop there. The Design House has become very pricey! An example of our visit is I ask about a battery operated candle, it was the last one. She said she (Kim) would sell it for 1/3 of the cost. It was used, dirty and very dusty. It did like a I thought was the perfect size for a room in my home. I told her Iād take it, got to the table to pay for it and it didnāt light anymore when I switched it on, I questioned her about it and she said I took the batteries out of it. I was purchasing it as is.... batteries and all. How tacky and rude was that of her to do that. In hindsight, I wish I would have thought to say... forget it, I donāt want it. Sadly, we all decided that would be our last trip to the place we looked forward to visiting a couple times a year and looking forward to using our $100 gift cards our brother purchased for us each Christmas. Itās become obverse priced and the customer service is NOT there!! Itās all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been wanting to go here for years after reading about it in WaPo and this weekend we were finally able to. The drive from Arlington is not so bad and more fun if you take back roads. Parking there was very easy and directed. We went in February on a weekend the designer house was open so it was a little crowded but I am guessing it is worse in the Spring and Summer. If it has rained, definitely bring appropriate footwear. You are parking in fields and it can be pretty muddy. Plus a lot of the vendors are outdoors. There is the main Luckett's store, the Designer House and then many vendors under tents or in smaller buildings and sheds. I am no expert but I wouldn't say you get true antiques, more like refurbished or repurposed vintage items. I loved it and really liked all the garden furnitures, wrought iron items, statuary, pots, etc. Definitely a Ballard Design sort of shopping experience. They also have jewelry, homemade soaps and lotions etc. You can definitely spend many hours browsing and there are other vintage/antique stores nearby to continue shopping or browsing. I guess my only sad observations are that it can get very crowded, especially indoors so it can be hard to move around and of course a lot of the items are overpriced. However, every once in a while you can find the perfect item at the...
