Buyer beware. I ordered the arcade on April 17th.
First off, I was tricked into paying them the 15k when the cabinet wasn't even built yet. Their website says payment isn't due until the cabinet was 2 weeks out. So when I was asked to pay it was clear to me that it was 2 weeks from being done and ready to ship. Turns out they hadn't built it yet.
The owners don't talk to each other. I told Josh what artwork I wanted and sent him photos. I was shown something different. However, the artwork wasn't the only issue: the buttons installed were a different brand and they didn't even add the spinner that I had paid for. Ed told me the cabinet would be shipped the next Monday. then Ed tried to make everything my fault and called me schizophrenic when I tried to explain that the front and control deck artwork was wrong.
(I wanted the MvC 3 sides with MvC2 front and deck, They made me a full MvC3 cab that didnt have stuff I ordered making me think this was a cabinet someone else ordered)
At this point Ed made a comment about how there are usually 2 or 3 customers that are impossible to make happy, insinuating that I'm a bad customer. (How can I be happy when you're about to ship a 15k cabinet that's incorrect?)
When I asked for a refund, I got told that Ed doesn't have to mail me a cabinet or refund my money.
They would ghost me for weeks after telling me "next Monday we will ship it". I only got a refund because I paid with a credit card. and had them deal with it.
At one point I spoke to Josh again and he seemed like he cared at first and just wanted to help. He had forgot that I sent him those photos but I never got an apology for the name calling, delays and what not.
Josh said he would replace the cabinet with new artwork and sell this one. I picked new artwork which was identical to what I originally asked for. (I wasn't trying to get a new cabinet unless it was easier to ship something they already had.) I asked about how long does it take to make a new cabinet and was told about 3 to 4 weeks. I waited 4 weeks and a few days because I never heard back from them and asked them for an update.
On Sept 9th I spoke to Josh over the phone and he said the cabinet hasn't even be started and that nobody will be happy at this point unless he just refunds me. I told him I'd be happy if he just stopped lying to me about when something would be finished. I reminded them that I wouldn't be this worried if this didn't seem like a complete scam since they tricked me into paying 15k in full months ago.
Both of them acted like my business didn't matter and that they sell a lot of cabinets for 15k so my order was just a drop in the bucket. Then Ed got cocky and started bad-mouthing their competitors. I'm sorry, it's awesome that they sell that many cabinets at that price, but it doesnt give them an excuse for treating me like crap. That money meant a lot to me; it was inheritance and they didn't care a bit.
Never pay them with your own money. Use a credit card and pay it off once it arrives at your house. If they refuse to refund you or fix the issue, make a dispute with your credit card company and let their lawyers handle it. (Sorry for bad grammar and spelling in the photos; I was very angry and...
Read moreI’ll spare myself more wasted time on this and share my initial email after receiving a “new” 4 person arcade. Hope to save you the trouble if you like the look of these as I did. —
Josh,
This cannot be. There’s no way this cabinet is new. If it is, this cannot seriously be a product you stand behind. Was this in stock because someone else realized it was garbage and returned it? Are you just upcycling shitty experiences?
A speaker is blown so it hums loudly the entire time the machine is on.
Two joysticks hardly respond to touch at all - completely unusable. Others are so sensitive it’s impossible to control.
Most of the games will not load or crash immediately upon starting to load.
Several games say they require a computer to play. ?
A door under the cabinet is broken and merely leaning against the two doors sandwiching it.
This is a $7000 setup. If this was $1500, $2000 I’d bother to put quality working parts and a new speaker in myself and troubleshoot the fact that the games don’t work. But this is not ok for $7k.
Worst purchase I’ve ever...
Read moreI'm sharing this review/shout out for the folks at Retro-Cade because I simply could not be more impressed with the end product of what I ordered/had in mind when I went out looking for ways to bring the classic arcade cabinet feel back into our place at home. Josh, Jeremy (the amazing graphic designer) and crew at RC brought to life something that I didn't know was possible - I'm attaching a picture of my LOTR themed four player cabinet that has all the sights, sounds, and playability of not only classic arcade games from my youth, but consoles and platforms that I grew up with that are close to my heart.
I considered this more of an investment rather than just a purchase. There are other places out there where you can find one or two games in cabinet form - but the sheer volume, quality, and attention to detail you find in RC's stuff is unmatched! Thank you all for what you put together. Everyone who sees it is absolutely...
