Okay listen, Vermont is a few things- skiing, hiking, beautiful mountains and MAPLE all the things!!
Of course Green Mountain Sugar House is going to be centered around the best flavor on the planet...maple. (I'm talking to you Dennis with the upset review about mostly having only maple products... It's quintessential Vermont, duh!)
The maple syrup can't be beat! They're happy to educate you on the different types and guide you to making selections that will satisfy however you crave that maple flavor that you can't find anywhere else. You can't find maple syrup like this in the grocery store next to Aunt Jemima. They do everything in their power to conserve that incredible rich and natural maple flavor. And please don't limit your maple syrup usage to just your pancakes and waffles- also great on cereal! (Another thing I learned growing up in Vermont)
And don't get me started on the maple candies... As a kid, these were like crack. They're the most wonderful flavor and melty texture that I've failed to find in any other candy.
When I was a kid, my family had a place on Okemo Mtn, and GMSH was always a stop we made on the way into town and on the way out. Now that I've grown and settled elsewhere, I find myself homesick for the beautiful people, experiences and places that are Vermont. THIS is a place I get homesick for.
Now, I just googled this place and am OVER THE MOON that I can order their products online! Kudos to you GMSH, you're incredible and full of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor over two decades, this shop has been a cherished tradition for my family. It was our go-to spot for maple creemees and candy, a place tied to many happy memories. Unfortunately, our last visit was so disappointing that we will not be returning.
We ordered seven creemees, and when I specified that one should be in a cup instead of a cone, the woman behind the counter visibly rolled her eyes. The frustration didn't end there. After preparing the six cones, she served the final creemee in a cup with less than half the amount of ice cream as the others. I was served last and by the time I finished everyone else still had more left than I started with. The small portion felt intentional and was a truly sour end to our visit.
It's a shame to see a 20-year relationship with a local spot end over such poor customer service. While the creemees are good, they aren't so exceptional that we're willing to overlook being treated poorly, especially when other local places offer similar quality at a better price and without the attitude. After so many years of loyal patronage, we are officially taking our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor 20 years this has been our pick for best maple creemee across the state. Very creamy, with robust maple flavor. The first lick always tasted like creme brulee. We pilgrimage over from north of Rutland once or twice a season. Sadly, we just had a disappointing first: weak maple flavor, crystalized ice milk rather than creamy, melted almost immediately. Just not the same. Hardly worth the calories, let alone the trip. The recipe seems to have changed or maybe the machine is having an off day. We'll give it one more chance, but if no improvement we'll stay on this side of the mountain and talk up the new "best"...
