Great river to spend the weekend at and it's very fun. I see parents again and again letting their young ones "who know how to swim" to be in the river by them selves. The worst one was when a dad put his daughter is a little donut that was supposed to keep her a float. It tipped over and the young girl got stuck. So her feet were in the air while her head was underwater. I cannot stress this enough, a river is not like a pool so be careful and watch over the young kids you take. Also you can't drink beer in some of the Parks that are near the river or cook BBQ. People used to be allowed before but left a lot of trash so they just do not allow it anymore. You can drink inside the river, because the park ranger have no authority in the river since it's owned by the state not the park, but do not leave trash in the river or throw things into the river...
Read moreVisited last year with family.. so much fun at no cost my advice to everybody visiting is to pass by Walmart to get the donut balloon thingy.. a bit pricy over there by the river.. you can still get the air for free and the people working there won't mind they might actually help you if needed.
Funny thing that happened is that my wife kept going and didn't stop with the river. I let the officers there know and they tell me "probably she went to a restroom or something" and I'm like no no she didn't I'm %100 sure she didn't. So they drop a canoe in the water and start looking for her.. all of that in less than 20 mins of her disappearance.. about 3 hours they find her +20 miles away.. I'm still thankful to them...
Read moreGorgeous river. On the same grounds as Texas State University so beware about where you decide to settle yourself down as there is a part of the river you cannot consume alcohol in. Float rentals are $14 however the majority of people bring their own. They also sell the air for $4 i believe in case you need to put air on your own float. Anyways my experience was enjoyable, very relaxing. The river hosts life to wild rice which was pretty cool to see. If you look down hard enough you can see small fish swim at your feet. This river is swim at your own risk so no lifeguards are around to protect you. Overall a great experience to help connect yourself with...
