This tunnel is amazing with its history. It's so easy to go around mountains, but the engineering it took to go through this massive rock formation is worthy of praise. The nay-sayers who post negatives here are a bunch of premadonnas. It's a tunnel for crying out loud. "There are tiles missing" (really? It's called age and weather); "There is water dripping from the top" (Oh boo hoo, cry me a river and use your wipers); "The lanes are to narrow" (then use more caution for the next 45 seconds); "The lights are to bright and hurt my eyes" (Seriously? Don't use drugs and then drive. Its called a tuuuunnelllll... heeeelloooooo. The lights are NOT bright!) "There are to many potholes in the road" (Then slow down, speed limit is 30 or 35, you're not in a race, enjoy the tunnel); "I'll never drive this tunnel again" (Good, less traffic to deal with and we don't need another crybaby on the road). I drive a semi thru here. Sure, there are things that need to be taken care of, but there's no reason to give it a low star rating because the people are premadonnas. People have to complain or nitpick about minor details just to feel good about making a post. The truth is, things deteriorate everywhere you go... hotel rooms, roads, buildings, this or that... so people have to complain. This tunnel is worth driving through and enjoying the fabulous view that awaits on the other end (daytime driving! Night time... sorry, yer S.O.L., but the tunnel is still an excellent experience at night too). I look forward to the tunnel every time I come down this interstate. Enjoy your journey thru the tunnel, and safe...
Read moreThe roadway approaching this engineering marvel was a pleasure to drive upon. Not only was I impressed by the road conditions but was also pleasantly surprised to see that in keeping with the Blue Mountain theme, the entrance to the tunnel is painted blue! How nice! However, I am sad to report that is where my excitement ended. Upon entering said tunnel, I happened to notice that a large percentage of the crusty tile they chose to put on the walls are no longer there...where are these tiles? And why has no one come to remedy this situation. It mad me feel rather uneasy to visually see that the tunnel is indeed falling apart. I looked up the tunnel out of curiosity to learn when this was constructed and am appalled at the fact that it was built in 1940 and appears that no one has cared about it since. Quite upsetting if you ask me. Will not be using this...
Read moreThere is no room for error while driving through this tunnel. The lanes are a tight squeeze, there is no passing, no shoulder. The potholes were scary but I think the water pouring threw the cracks in the top was scarier. Maybe I'm wrong but should water even be coming down in a tunnel? The lighting hurt my eyes so I had to wear sun glasses every time I went threw. So I guess it's safe to say that you have a 50/50 chance of picking the right lane and not crashing. 🤷♀️...
