Shane's Sporting Clays — Local services in Madison

While attending family weekend @ High Point University I took my two son’s and a newby classmate to Shane’s. It was my first time there and it won’t be my last time! To start, it’s a beautiful 30 minute or less drive from High Point. Then a really long drive back to the facility, which is also the home of the owner. Since this excursion was spontaneous we did not have any of our gear so had to rent a pair of shot guns and buy our ammo, ear and eye protection. Everything worked out great! The course was challenging but not so challenging that we rookies couldn’t have success. They are improving the stands greatly with an 8’x8’ covered deck on the first 8 or 9 stations so far. Plenty of new gravel all around too. If you need a golf cart, there are at least 8 Ezgo Sporting Clays editions one can rent. They seat four people and have all the racks you need. As you probably know, clays isn’t a cheap sport but I felt for the quality of the rental guns, the traps, stations, etc. it was very fairly priced. My son and I had a great time at Shane's !! I didn't know what to expect having never shot clays or been to a range before. As soon we walked in to the range office we were greeted by friendly staff. I was lucky enough to meet Shane who was extremely nice and he explained the different parts of the facility. I never felt any pressure or intimidation from anyone there. He set us up with ammo and a shotgun. A staff member followed us out to the practice area and showed us how to operate the clays and went over the safety procedures . Great place to shoot. The stations are well maintained and you are out side on a farm, in the real world. Just can't beat nature. Rent everything (gun, glasses, hearing protection and ammo) or bring you own. This is a shotguns only venue. The throwing equipment is real easy to figure out as the staff explained everything. My specific interest is shooting on my own, just retired and wanted something to do while all my friends are still at work. So on my own, their equipment can be set to use a timer to delay each throw. If you have kids or friends of appropriate age, this would be a...
