
OK, I cheated. I drove to the parking area about a half mile from the bridge and walked from there. But the bridge makes me want to get a bike for this spring. Seriously. The view from the bridge is great at any time of the year and when the sun goes down, the lights on the decorative squares on the bridge is pretty cool too.

Read moreThis place is in the middle of nowhere. You can’t exactly find it on gps, you have to gps the parking lot, not the bridge itself. You need flashlights, and you need either some bikes and some good sneakers to take a nice 30 minute minimum walk to get to the bridge. You want to go at sunset so make sure to time it just right. Give yourself an hour in advance in case you get lost. There are no restrooms there so make sure you keep that in mind too. From Madrid, drive a straight road for 8 minutes along Iowa 210 (330th Street) and TURN LEFT onto QF Lane (sign is easy to miss!) Drive down an unpaved road for a minute or so. See sign for Grant’s Wood Trail parking. Park, then follow the path into the woods for a 10-minute walk.
