Easy fairly flat hike along beautiful lake after beautiful lake! Part of the John Muir Trail. The parking I hear can be a nightmare in the prime Summer season, so I recommend going early. In the morning. We were here in October and the parking was easy, and right up close. The scenery was breathtaking, and colors were so bright and gorgeous. Yes this area is dog friendly. There are bear boxes at the parking area. This could be an all day adventure or just a couple hours.

This is a nice, easy family hike. It is about 2.5 miles round trip and you walk along water pretty much the whole way. There are some flight of rock stairs to get over the various hills. The views are incredible. The parking lot fills up early and is small but you can park in some of the small lots just down the road.

Drive up to 10'000 feet...then start a beautiful hike...passing several lakes...all worth stopping at and enjoying...fishing and swimming at the lakes are allowed...just make sure you get a permit...you can also backpack through the area and link up into the J.M.T.

BEWARE OF POT HOLES!! On 9/27/24 at least 3 cars got severe flat tires attempting to make it to Mosquito Flats. The road is paved but loaded with potholes, the most deadly one in the shadow of the trees on the east side of the roadway, in between the rock creek resort and mosquito flat. It’s right before the “road narrows” sign. All 4 cars got blown out by the exact same...
