This is the EmailI sent to Colorado EPA:||||I dont know who to tell but someone needs to know what is going on.||||Yesterday June 5th I arrived at Mesa Verde RV Resort 35303 Hwy 160||Mancos, CO 81328. A Privately owned RV campground.||||After arriving there and being directed to site # 44 We were there for about 2 hours when a neighbor comes beating on my door to tell me I have liquid coming out under my rv. I ran outside to see the sewer hook up pipe at site 44 was free flowing gallons of human waste and toilet paper. I wanted to move my rv but the raw sewage was disgusting and I was going to have to walk in it and touch my things that were covered in it. Things? My fresh water connections and filters sitting in flowing waste water. ||Another camper informed me the owner was on his way. He was. He arrived instantly with all the tools for a sewer problem. In the mean time instead of being sympathetic to my situation he starts yelling at me that my problems are not his and he doesn't care that my things are covered in sewer waste. Also if I don't like it I need to leave. Then his tone changes and tells me to leave his property. Then his helper starts puffing out his chest and making aggressive moves toward me.||||I had to walk in the waste to disconnect. In the mean time the owner and his helper contuinued being overly ugly. It surly wasnt my problem I NEVER connected or pumped my sewer there. BUT... I did crawl under my RV in the river of dried waste from the last time it happened which was very recent based on the evidence.||||I know I witnessed in excess of 100 gallons of human excretment flowing down his street thru his community and into the natural water basins behind the campground. I was informed by folks that is at least the 3rd time that has happened since Memorial Day weekend. That could be in excess of 300 gallons of human waste and toilet paper. I am sure there are a dozen laws and EPA rues that were broken that day.||||Once I was threatened I called 911 and drove off his property. The operator didn't seem to care about my predicament or that a human waste spill of this magnitude required a response or haz mat. Instead she connected me with National Park Services who of course just told me that it wasn't their property.||||So here I am with human waste on me, and everything I have touched with no running water and driving off with nowhere to go.||||I now know I probably only needed to be bathed although I am still very concerned about all the diseases human waste can carry.||||||||I am also concerned about the lack of concern about this seemingly constant dumping into a very fragile and drought plagued landscape. ||As well as the 911 operators lack of response or even understanding of the problem.||||||An added note: I had to leave. I am thankful. I cant imagine the man and his kids that were outside eating when this happened! WOW! What...
Read moreWe made reservations at Mesa Verde RV Resort two weeks before arrival. This park was especially attractive to us because of their 20% military discount. My husband is retired Navy and we RV travel full-time and seldom see a discount like this. It really makes “thank you for your service” feel sincere. We arrived and the office was closed. The next morning when I checked in, my credit card had already been charged for the week. We were charged the weekly rate, which is 10% less than the regular rate. When I asked about the 20% military discount, the work camper in the office could not help with this and told me that I needed to talk to the owner “Mark.” She informed me that there was a new owner and she didn’t think there was a military discount because the “prices are already so good.”
I double checked my confirmation email from when I made the reservation and looked at their website which clearly stated the military discount was 20%.
I repeatedly returned to the office with my credit card so the charge could be corrected—Mark was never available. It took three days before I was finally told that the 20% military discount would not be honored. I was told that I was “given the weekly rate and that can’t be changed.” Couldn’t be changed? I wasn’t asking for the rate to be changed. I was asking for the discount given upon reservation to be honored on arrival. The owner, Mark, never did make the time to speak to me in person.
It is not about the money or the fact that this park does not offer a military discount. We stay at plenty of RV parks that don’t offer a military discount. The whole situation was handled wrong and I received poor customer service in trying to fix something that I thought was a simple mistake. The park is under new management and may be having some problems with instituting new policies and new work campers who didn’t have answers or knowledge. It’s unfortunate that their growing pains were passed on to me,...
Read moreDon't get me wrong the place is great for everything else, clean, neat, close to national park etc as every one else stated.
However, If it is cool enough to leave the windows open the road noise is constant. The gravel pull through sites are fine although I have a low back end and dragged going into 2 different sites and gouged the gravel. They DO NOT allow camp fires and have dog breed restrictions so make sure if you have a dog it is not on their list. Being a dog owner of several different breeds I find this completely offensive and discriminatory. Any dog can be trained to be dangerous and vicious or kind an friendly, it all depends on the trainer. They did say it was their insurance company stating the restriction and apologized however, that did not change my attitude.
My big issue was the wifi. I work in the IT world and used an external antenna with a wifi booster/ repeater. The park was about 3/4 full. They boast about their wifi antennas but in reality you can have a million antennas and if the pipe to the facility is too small when every one is on, the system slows to a crawl. We needed to do a lot of trip planning and booking before moving on to the Grand Canyon and then Vegas. We read the reviews and thought this was a great place to stop to plan the next few stops on our trip. At night after touring Mesa Verde National park we needed to do our planning but could get anywhere. At one time their router refused my connection saying "no more connections allowed" The only time it was useable (if waiting 10-30 sec for a page to load) was in the morning before 10. There were times it would burst to 4 or 5 mbps but it would suddenly drop to .7 or .2mbps. it was very inconstant and frustrating. My kids did try to stream as some one stated they were able to but you got a few minutes of show before it would buffer.
Everything else was...
