First fish trip of 2024 I hit up the Jefferson River just south of Whitehall. Fished at three spots Kountz bridge, Piedmont pond and Parrot Castle access with no luck. The Jefferson is one of the best rivers in Montana in my opinion. Some of the best fishing in Montana can be found along the Jefferson depending on where you are. The area surrounding especially the Western section of the river is absolutely beautiful. Be careful about the currents in some specific sections they can be especially strong and dangerous.

Great river to float down in the summer - grab a tube, the water's fine! Shallow and slow, you can drift lazily down the Jefferson drinking beer and eating chips while eagles soar overhead. Just remember to apply sunscreen :)

I lived and worked in the Boulder MT area back in the mid 70s (U S forest service and the Milwaukee RR it was some of the best times of my life I fished the area regularly there were no problems with access back then, I try to go back every couple years but now it's impossible to fish the...
