The Perch — Local services in Manuel Benavides

The Perch is one of a kind! The owner is very responsive and told me the story how he meticulously designed and built the off grid oasis over 2 years. Every detail was carefully thought out. I had the pleasure to stay there with some friends and we are already planning another trip later in the year. The fact that the entire property is self sustainable is amazing to me! You do have to be conscious of water and electric usage but staying here reminded me of how wasteful one can be in every day “on the grid” life. Plenty of water and electricity for our week stay. Great location! Very close to the entrance of Big Bend. Restaurants and bars are less than 10 minute drive, yet sometimes you get the feeling you are hundreds of miles from anyone or anything. My favorite part of the trip was sitting in the massive porch watching the sunset/rise. It was so relaxing. I can’t wait to go back in the Fall. Amazing hikes are a short drive away and night skies can’t be beat!!

Drive up should really only be for cars that are designed for it. Don’t take a Nissan Altima up.

Friend’s 3-night bachelor party was a fun time. Electricity lasted just long enough until early AM departure. Late June summer heat drained the batteries because half the group stayed in on Saturday. Showers and sinks worked fine.

Accommodations were surprisingly good for off gridding. Would love to visit in moderate temps!
